TiECON Paves The Way For Local Entrepreneurs

The Indus Entrepreneurs, TiE, will be holding the first international TiECON Pakistan 2011 in collaboration with their media partners, CIO Pakistan. TiECON Pakistan 2011 is an event which aims to help aspiring entrepreneurs in Pakistan. TiE is a global, nonprofit organization with a focus on promoting entrepreneurship, especially amongst the youth of Pakistan. TiE was established in 1992 by a small group of executives from Silicon Valley who felt that what Pakistan needed to be able to move forward into the next millennium with young entrepreneurs who would be able to take the country forward. Consequently TiE was set up and it has since grown into a vibrant and professional voluntary organization dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurship.

TiE has more than 13,000 members and over 2,500 charter members in 56 chapters across 13 countries. The members come from a variety of business and academic backgrounds. They are now uniting in their efforts of trying “to provide a dynamic and vibrant environment in which entrepreneurs can share their experiences and draw from a common pool of knowledge.” The culmination of these efforts lies in two facts: the number of business ideas that TiE has actually facilitated and the fact that it is now going to host an international conference to generate greater interest in entrepreneurial activities amongst the youth of Pakistan.

The entire TiECON 2011 event has been developed using ‘Bounce Back!’ as its main theme, and is symbolic of the fact that Pakistan is now ready to, figuratively speaking ‘bounce back’ in the face of all the economic woes that have hitherto beset the country. To quote the organization, “TiECON Pakistan 2011 will be one historic event spearheaded by all three Pakistani TiE Chapters; Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.” TiECON Pakistan 2011 will be held in the capital city of Islamabad on April 30, 2011. The event will also guarantee both national and international exposure for the aspiring entrepreneurs participating since TiECON 2011 will be hosted by both local and  international entrepreneurs. The event also promises to have “iconic businessmen and investors share, with the attendees, heuristics of their rise to success.”

Highlights of the event

Apart from the main event, featuring more than nine renowned keynote speakers, TiECON 2011 will also have a number of highlights that will make the conference both unique and fun. Spark Corner will comprise of six different sessions where small groups of approximately 50 to 60 people will be able to have an interactive discussion with an inspirational speaker. Startup City will be an exhibition area where nearly 60 entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to showcase their ventures to attract investors, renowned entrepreneurs and other participants.  Two workshops, comprising of 150 participants each, will also be hosted alongside the main TiECON event. These workshops will aim to train aspiring entrepreneurs and students and teach them the basic entrepreneurial techniques. The Sponsor’s Exhibition will feature exclusive stalls for sponsors to exhibit their products or services. An Innovation Corner will also be set up where Pakistani products will be showcased and given the uniquely beneficial opportunity to seek partnerships.

Mentoring Sessions will form an almost integral part of the event. Here, registered delegates will be able to send online mentoring requests through the TiECON website so that one-on-one mentoring sessions between mentors and subjects can be held parallel to the main event. The Charter Members Lounge will host sessions for the Charter Members of TiE so that members may have the opportunity to come and meet together for networking purposes.

The entire aim of TiECON 2011 is to be able to help the Pakistani nation surmount all the numerous troubles, the natural, political, economic troubles that beset it and rise above them to achieve success for themselves and their country.
