iPhone Dev Team Confirms Untethered iOS 4.3.1 Jailbreak Exploit is ‘Solid’, Quashes Spy Rumors

Two interesting little jailbreak tidbits to come out of hacker MuscleNerd’s Twitter account today with news of an untethered 4.3.1 jailbreak as well as his thoughts on rumors of a spy in the jailbreak camp.

iOS-4.3

First up we have confirmation from the big man that hacker i0n1c’s untethered 4.3.x jailbreak appears to be ‘solid’ with just a few final kinks to work out.

4.3.1

Hopefully this news means we won’t have to wait too long to jailbreak our updated iDevices without the fear associated with tethered hacks.

MuscleNerd also quashed rumors that there was a spy in the camp, with information being leaked to Apple to help the Cupertino company fix the SHAtter exploit in iOS 4.3, and more recently iPad 2 jailbreak exploit on iOS 4.3.1.

According to MuscleNerd’s Twitter and forum postings, the Dev Team wasn’t actually in on what Comex was working on when SHAtter was in the works, so they couldn’t have leaked anything even if they wanted to.

That solves that then!

Now, less tweeting and more hacking please Mr MuscleNerd!

Samsung Laptops Shipping With Keyloggers – Check Yours!!

If you own a newer Samsung laptop, you might have a fiasco on your hands akin to the Sony 2005 BGM Rootkit scandal. According to Network World, Samsung has been installing a keylogger on its new laptops. A keylogger, for those who don’t know, is a program designed to record every single keystroke entered, even in password-protected windows, and usually transmits the logged keystrokes regularly via email. Mohammad Hassan, who discovered the keylogger, had this to say:

While setting up a new Samsung computer laptop with model number R525 in early February 2011, I came across an issue that mirrored what Sony BMG did six years ago. After the initial set up of the laptop, I installed licensed commercial security software and then ran a full system scan before installing any other software. The scan found two instances of a commercial keylogger called StarLogger installed on the brand new laptop.

Later on, Hassan returned the R525 due to display problems(after the keylogger had been removed). He replaced his previous model with a different Samsung laptop, the R540. Upon scanning it, he found that the R540 had the same keylogger installed in the same directory as it was on the R525! “The fact that on both models the same files were found in the same location supported the suspicion that the hardware manufacturer, Samsung, must know about this software on its brand-new laptops.”

201103302123.jpg

Samsung has since launched an investigation into the keylogger incident, with the aid of Mr. Hassan(and Mich Kabay, who published the original article via Network World). If you own a Samsung laptop, specifically one of the R Series, scanning it with a proven anti-virus software would not be a bad idea(I personally recommend Windows Security Essentials).

Untethered iOS 4.3.1 Jailbreak Release Imminent As iPhone Dev Team Confirms Exploit As ‘Solid’

iOS 4.3.1 is out and the only way to jailbreak it so far is by doing a tethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak using Sn0wbreeze and PwnageTool. Many of us would like to have an untethered jailbreak, so that the jailbreak is much more stable and does not require hooking up to the computer for every reboot. Just yesterday, it was confirmed that Stefan Esser handed over his iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak exploit over to the iPhone Dev Team. Now, the iPhone Dev Team, MuscleNerd to be exact, has confirmed that the iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak exploit is ‘Solid’ and that a release is imminent.

So basically, this means that work on implementation of iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak exploit in either Redsn0w and PwnageTool for an untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak is well underway and we should expect a release as soon as the minor tweaks have been made.

Stay tuned as we’ll let you know as soon as we hear more about iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak release.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Hands-On Photos, Video

Samsung Galaxy S2 is the next big thing from Samsung, which was unveiled at a Samsung Unpacked event last month at MWC’11. This phone features the next-gen hardware, like the dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM etc.

Our first impressions of the Galaxy S2 have been really, really good. The Super AMOLED Plus display totally blows! It has a contrast ratio that could kill your eyes (just kidding!). Amazing screen! Much, much better than the original Galaxy S’ Super AMOLED display.

Samsung Galaxy S II features a dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, the gorgeous 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, only 8.49mm think, 8 megapixels camera with full HD recording, TouchWiz 4.0 and four Samsung hub apps.

Galaxy S2 is a beast, in short. Thanks to its Tegra 2 dual-core processor under the hood, I didn’t feel even a slight lag in the phone with a live wallpaper on and while using it.

The phone is not anywhere near the official launch, but according to the rumours, Galaxy S2 will probably make its way in the stores sometime in May. We’ll definitely be doing a full, detailed review of the Galaxy S2 once the launch gets near!

Thanks to Badar Khushnood, Country Consultant, Google (Pakistan) to get our hands on this amazing beast!

Amazon launches Cloud Player for Android and the Web

Google and Apple fan boys are in for a surprise. Amazon has done what we were expecting the Android and iOS creators to do first, rolled out a cloud based music streaming service which they are calling Cloud Music Player. The streaming service works on your Android phones, tablets and of course the web.

Three services namely Amazon Cloud Drive, Amazon Cloud Player for Web and Amazon Cloud Player for Android combine together to deliver streaming music to your ears whether it be your mobile phone or your PC. Bill Carr, vice president of Movies and Music at Amazon explains the motive behind these cloud based services:

Our customers have told us they don’t want to download music to their work computers or phones because they find it hard to move music around to different devices. Now, whether at work, home, or on the go, customers can buy music from Amazon MP3, store it in the cloud and play it anywhere.

To use this service all you need to do is upload your music collection to Amazon Cloud Drive, and then listen to music using either the web based Cloud Player or by downloading the new version of the Amazon MP3 App which includes the music player on your Android phone.

Salesforce.com buying social monitoring vendor Radian6

Salesforce.com will pay more than $300 million for the company
By Chris Kanaracus
IDG News Service (Boston Bureau)

BOSTON (03/30/2011) â€" Salesforce.com plans to buy social media monitoring vendor Radian6, whose technology tracks conversations occurring on social sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, the company said Wednesday.

Radian6′s technology gives companies insights into what people are saying about their brands and products, as well as competitors. Its customers include Kodak, PepsiCo and greater than 50 percent of the Fortune 500, Salesforce.com said.

Salesforce.com will pay roughly US$276 million in cash and $50 million in stock, net of cash acquired. The transaction is expected to close by July 31.

Salesforce.com plans to meld Radian6′s capabilities with its own growing array of software for sales and customer service, as well as its Chatter social networking platform. Developers will also be able to use Radian6 technology when building applications on Salesforce.com’s Force.com platform, the company said.

While Salesforce.com already has completed integrations with Twitter and Facebook, Radian6′s capabilities will give it a much broader reach into the social web. Radian6′s products can “track mentions across over 150 million social media sites and sources and returns the results for exploration, understanding and action,” according to its website.

The deal will “extend the value of all of our offerings,” Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff said in a statement.

Rumors had swirled for months that Salesforce.com was planning to buy Radian6, which will be the latest in a string of Salesforce.com purchases that include online meeting and collaboration vendor DimDim and Heroku, maker of a cloud-based platform for building Ruby applications.

Radian6 competes with a number of similar vendors, including Converseon and Alterian. Larger vendors such as IBM, Microsoft and SAS Institute have also gotten into the game.

So-called “listening platform” technologies matured in 2010, according to a Forrester Research report released in December.

For one, “data collection became an arms race,” analyst Zach Hofer-Shall and his co-authors wrote. “In the past, many vendors relied heavily on third-party data aggregators, but now, the leading vendors recognize holes in this syndicated coverage and race to build their own crawlers or scrapers.”

Data processing has also become more sophisticated, Hofer-Shall wrote. “Many of the vendors in the listening platform space started small, with basic Boolean filtering â€" creating complex search strings to identify relevant content. But, as the volume of online conversation grows and spam becomes more prevalent, simple filtering fails to pass muster.”

Now vendors are using more advanced process to analyze natural language, as well as beginning to focus on multilingual support and better analysis of audience “sentiment” and segmentation, the report adds.

Salesforce.com chose to buy Radian6 for a number of reasons, Benioff said during a conference call Wednesday.

“They have the best technology, they also understand the business, and they have the customers,” he said. “There’s a lot of companies in social media because it’s the hottest trend in the world, but this is the company that has monetized it.”

Those factors justify the price Salesforce is paying for Radian6, which will be its largest acquisition to date, executives said.

The deal will give Salesforce.com access to a new customer base, namely marketing executives, Benioff said. Right now, Salesforce.com’s core customers are in sales and service.

However, “this company will span all of our customers’ interests,” Benioff added. “What’s happening on the social web is important to them.”

Analysts: Apple Sold 5 to 9 Million iPads In Q1 2011

We are nearing the end of March which also means the end of first quarter for those interested. As expected, analysts have chipped in with their iPad sales estimates for the first quarter and they believe that  Apple tablet sales count span around  five to nine million iPads.

Apple iPad 2 Unboxing

Fortune started this iPad sales prediction game by asking 30 analysts to submit their iPad sales estimates. Chris Whitmore, an analyst at Deutsche Bank was the one who took the cautious approach and estimated the lowest sales of 5 million Apple Tablet units which includes two weeks of iPad 2 sales as well. Hendi Suntano was the person who provided the highest sales prediction of 8.8 million units.

Are you surprised on this impressive sales estimate? Well, I am not and neither should you since the iPad has proven itself to be magical. If you remember the iPad 2 launch event, Steve Jobs revealed that they sold around 15 million iPads in 2010 alone.  And if this analysis is anything near the reality, the iPad will have another successful year which won’t please its competitors one bit.

iOS 4.3.1 Untethered Jailbreak Exploit Handed Over To The iPhone Dev Team

After demoing his untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1, iPhone security expert and hacker Stefan Esser has confirmed that he has now handed over the exploit to the members of the iPhone Dev-Team and that it is currently in internal beta testing stage.

iOS-4.3

Untethered 4.3.1 Jailbreak

Once this initial testing is found to be successful, they are then going to implement it in one of their existing tools like Redsn0w or PwnageTool before releasing it to public.

Untethered 4.3.1 Jailbreak (1)

Also, this untethered exploit wont work on the iPad 2. Since Apple has patched Comex’s exploit in iOS 4.3.1, a new exploit will be required to jailbreak iPad 2 on the latest iOS 4.3.1 firmware.

WWDC 2011 Announced Today…. And Then Sold Out

Today, members of the Apple Developers program were issued an email invitation to buy tickets for WWDC 2011, which would take place June 6 through June 10, and would would feature a “preview of the future of iOS and Mac OS X”. With both iOS and OS X being covered in June, it looks like a fall introduction of the new iPhone wouldn’t be too far-fetched. Let’s not forget that OS X Lion is due out this fall as well. Sounds like WWDC this year will be really exciting, right? Only one problem… On the same day it was announced, WWDC 2011 has already sold out!

In the past, having only 5000 available seats seemed to work out. But, with the growth of both OS X and iOS, it looks like Apple might need to consider a larger arrangement next time around, or split the Mac and iOS events into two separate, distinct conferences. Just a thought.

Can Technology be Overused?

In cricket, with the luxury of two reviews, in a high-profile, high-tension match between India and Pakistan, yes, technology can easily be overused. How’s this for an example of the tension that surrounds the second semifinal in the Cricket World Cup 2011 series? As of now, 2:30 p.m. local Pakistan time, on the website of the official media channel that is broadcasting the entire World Cup 2011 tournament, there is an enlarged photograph of captains Afridi and Dhoni shaking hands. And this picture was sported on the webpage even as New Zealand and Sri Lanka played out a semifinal match in Colombo. Everything, it seems, has been sidelined for the all-important match between India and Pakistan.   Given the tensions that together both Indian and Pakistani nationals have heaped on the heads of those 22 men who, along with the umpires will descend into the field for a do-or-die, hopefully not literally, match, we, with a lot of help from ICC who really hyped up the match, have ensured that both teams enter the stadium chock-full of stress and nerves that day. In other words, we’ve done everything possible to ensure that players from both teams are on edge, and ready to do anything it takes to take the other team out as soon as it can be managed. This said, it would not surprise me if both teams decided to rapidly use all the umpire replays very quickly also. In hindsight, I may or may not appreciate the likely rapidity with which reviews are called for, but foresight demands that I insist that this tactic does not necessarily have to be the best tactic going.   India’s quarter-final match against the lately invincible Australian team was ample testimony to the fact. Cricinfo.com reported, “Patel to Ponting, no run, loud appeal from Munaf, none from Dhoni.” Anyhow, India went ahead with the review, but it was “wasted”. This was in the 27th over of the match. Barely ten overs later India called for another review. This time seemed more plausible. The entire stadium, with the exception of umpire Erasmus felt that Cameron White was out. The Indian team naturally went with the general spirit of appeal. For the second time that day, the Indian team might as well have spared the effort of appealing. In the 44th over however, Indian bowler, Harbhajan Singh, bowling to Ponting made an impressive delivery. Ponting should have been given out; the umpire did not ‘raise his finger,’ and sadly, India had no more reviews to contest the umpire’s decision. Meanwhile, the Pakistani side, emotional and unpredictable as ever, are no better. The 16th over and with the match barely begun, Afridi called for a review against an lbw decision involving Sarwan. Commentators dubbed it a “ridiculous review for lbw.” Even after wasting that review, it was hard work for the Pakistani side to not call for another review in the very next ball!   The frequent calls for reviews are tempting, exciting, but at the end of the day, were meant to be used to actually give the playing teams a sort of hold over the decisions that were taken concerning their match. Technology was brought into cricket, one of the most popular sports in the subcontinent at least, in order to make the sport clean, and all decisions taken transparent. The third umpire review system, involving a TV umpire who reviews umpiring decisions on-screen from various angles; the Hawkeye technology, a computer-based system to show ‘the path of a cricket ball’ and the Snick-o-Meter, an extremely sensitive microphone located in the stumps to pick up the sound of the ball ‘nicking’ the bat are other instances of the ways in which technology have hitherto supported cricket on the field. As far as the reviews are concerned, both teams should keep calm, and not use all their reviews hastily, just for the sake of using them. Well, Geo is Lot Better Than Indian TV Channels

Well, Geo is Lot Better Than Indian TV Channels

In the past, we have heartedly bashed Geo TV, for the reasons we thought were right. But you will have to believe me that Indian Media has turned out to be the best (obviously lot better than Geo) at falsifying the facts and bending them for their own good.

Preparing the nation for today’s Semi Final between India and Pakistan, India media has left no stone unturned to belittle Pakistani team, and for this they are bluntly altering the facts to add spice to their shows.

Check following screen shot for example:

indian media thumb Well, Geo is Lot Better Than Indian TV Channels

According this show, Pakistan has played a total of 26 matched in India against India, out of which India won 17 matches and Pakistan managed to win 9 matches. Well, this is not true.

Check think link on WikiPedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_versus_Pakistan_cricket_rivalry

It says:

ODI matches summary
  • Total 119 Matches: 46 won by India, 69 won by Pakistan. No result 4
  • 26 matches in India: 9 won by India, 17 won by Pakistan.
  • 27 matches in Pakistan: 11 won by India, 14 won by Pakistan. No result 2.
  • 66 matches on neutral grounds: 26 won by India. 38 won by Pakistan. No result 2

This is one example of Jugglery; there are dozens of other incidents where India Media is playing with the facts.

Have a look at following video, and note the commentary, does it make any sense to you? Does this channel deserve its existence on the planet? I doubt it.
