Fahad Khan’s Perspective On Software Business Today

“Lakson Business Solutions is going places. Much faster than you blink,” and this quote from their official website provides the crux of what symbolizes Laksol, a project of the Lakson Group of Companies in Pakistan. They provide unparalleled application development on leading and cutting edge technologies. The organization’s motto is to provide solutions keeping in view the customer’s needs, and then providing them with solutions that are designed to handle current and future needs.

The personalized solutions are what give Laksol the edge over their competitors, both at the local and the international level. According to Fahad Khan, the Head of business development sales division in Laksol Solutions, they offer “customized solutions developments right from scratch to any level that a customer is looking for, so, as compared to out-of-the-box products, we have more customized application development and that is what is needed nowadays in the market… a complete solution not just a box that caters for a certain level or a certain requirement” at any given point in time.

Laksol has four basic areas of operations. They handle IT solutions, in-house web applications that have been developed and are sold as products, mobile applications development, and they provide Microsoft products-based solutions and services also for both local and international organizations. On the local front, the organization is currently handling projects for Microsoft, Dawlance, Igloo, Nokia, iPhone-based applications, Ministry of Higher Education… the list, according to Fahad Khan, is a long one. He further added that “Laksol caters to a good mix of both local and international markets: Pfizer, Igloo, Dawlance, the City School in Lahore, are just a few.” However, he also spoke of how the international market, the Middle East, Canada, UK etc. are more “exposed” as compared to the local markets. In other words international organizations have matured more than their Pakistani counterparts. As a result, they now demand complete web solutions rather than merely getting websites designed or renovated. Pakistani companies need to catch on this trend also since, according to Fahad, simply having a new website designed is not enough to take an organization forward in this age of technology and Internet.

As a country, the Pakistani technological industries have done well to get a lot of leased out work from foreign countries. Taking Laksol as an example, one of their biggest clients is South America. The reason why so much work is handed out from the more developed countries of the world is because for the parent organization, it is a lot more cost-effective to have work leased out to developing countries like Pakistan where the labor cost is much cheaper. However, this also exposes Pakistani companies to a certain level of threat from other developing countries like India. “India provides extra services at half or even a third of the price that Pakistani companies charge. However, the quality of their work does not match the far better Pakistani standards. We need to capitalize on that to try and hold our own in the market,” advised Fahad.

Laksol itself has developed into a consultant-organization. This means that when a client comes to them, they “advise them and tell them what the international market is doing, how their competitors are handling similar situations and give them alternative solutions if needed.” Looking forward to working with a Canadian oil and gas company, Fahad Khan is confident that this outlook and working style will certainly help his company “compete better in the market.”
