SECP’s eServices Project Wins Laureate Gold Medal 2011 in the Computer World Honors Program 2011!

On April 21, 2011, IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program announced Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan as winner of Laureate Gold Medal for its eServices Project. This annual award program honors visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change. It was especially competitive this year because the program received more than 1,000 nominations from 23 different countries. All were reviewed for their benefit to society and the results of the technology applied by the Chairmen’s Committee, a coalition of chairmen and CEOs from leading technology companies, that has driven the Computerworld Honors Program since its founding in 1988 through its financial support and nomination of Laureate candidates.

CIO SECP, Arshad Javed Minhas says, “I feel this is a great moment to cherish for all of us at this glorious international recognition for our beloved country. This award is also a significant indicator of SECP’s commitment to provide healthy environment to the investors for the growth of Pakistani economy by implementing efficient automated systems to assure the transparency and accountability.” He explained that the eServices system is a continuation of the SECP’s efforts to make use of advanced technologies to ensure that the Commission effectively performs its regulatory, monitors and enforces duties. “The IS&T Division,” Minhas continues, “had fulfilled a number of strategic initiatives, which would be treated as the infrastructure for many projects for the Commission including eServices, eSurveillance, ISO 27001 certification and establishment of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery System. eServices system of the Commission is accessible from anywhere in the world via definite login ID with digital signature. It enormously facilitates the corporate sector, practitioners, consultants and public at large. Through this system they can apply for various online services of the Commission and e-filing of statutory returns. It enables the promoters and other officers of the companies to interact online using the eServices portal, without visiting the offices of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).”

There are numerous benefits of this eServices system for the business and cooperate sector of Pakistan as it provides the investor transparent, efficient and cutting-edge environment.

The award will be presented to SECP at the Annual Laureates Medal Ceremony & Gala Awards event on June 20, 2011 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. where the Pakistan National Flag will be hoisted, for the first time.
