PIA to Launch FM Radio

Pakistan International Airlines is apparently set to launch its own FM Radio Station. The idea was the brainchild of the Aneesa Rehman, the PIA Brands General Manager. Several meetings with the Managing Director of PIA have already been held in this regard. Aneesa has also stated to launch a band of amateur singers, the ‘Majestic Voices’, via the station. The station is likely to have a broadcasting radius of approximately 120 km, hence ensuring that it will be able to transmit signals to the whole of Karachi. The station will cost approximately Rs. 50 million. A new post, of Media Liaison Officer will also be created, with Aneesa Rehman allegedly set to take up duties as media officer also.

 

Pakistan Tops Google’s Search List for Adult Content

The data analysis for the Google search engine’s terms entered for various search engine results in 2011 are in. According to the analysis, Pakistan is said to have won the top slot in search for results related to the term ‘sex.’ Vietnam and India are also on the top 5 countries whose people searched for similar adult content on the popular search engine’s site. While various cities of Pakistan also managed to figure in the top ten cities to search for adult content on Google at various times of the year, no Pakistani city featured on any of these lists during the months of February and August 2011. Google has an intricate system of formulating these ratings which basically includes figuring out the number of total searches for any particular term made over a period of time and then dividing it by the total number of searches on Google over time. Needless to say, the Google Trends results have once more sparked off a furious, controversial debate regarding the results.

 

Zong Donates to Pakistani Flood Victims

Chief Executive Officer of Zong, China Mobile Company, Fan Yunjun, presented the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yusuf Raza Gillani with a cheque of Rs. 1 million donation for the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund. At the occasion, he also stated that in the four years that Zong has been operating here, it has already made a cumulative investment of $1.5 billion in the country and paid taxes worth over 26 billion rupees. CEO Yan Yunjun also expressed Zong’s keen interest in investing in 3G technology. He said that ‘the company wants to extend its operations to new heights which would provide job opportunities to youth in various fields benefiting from its future projects.’ In return, the Prime Minister appreciated the services of Zong in the country. Zong currently has 13.2 million subscribers in Pakistan.

 

TradeKey amongst top 50 on AllWorld Arabia Fast Growth 500 list

TradeKey ranked among the top 50 companies on AllWorld’s Arabia Fast Growth 500 list. It is also one of the top 25 fastest growing companies of Pakistan. The announcement was made at the second Global Summit on Entrepreneurship by AllWorld at Istanbul. TradeKey CEO Junaid Mansoor congratulated his team, partners and customers on TradeKey’s achievement saying that it highlighted the trust stakeholders had in the company. The Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh also said, “The strong performance of Pakistani companies in Arabia 500 demonstrates that in spite of the challenges there are strong business and investment opportunities here.” The Arabia Fast Growth 500 is a list of the fastest growing start-ups in Middle East, North Africa, Turkey and Pakistan.

 

Pakistani Architect Wins Best Thesis Award

A Pakistani architect Fasih ud din Khan, won the first prize for Best Thesis 2011 at the ‘Young Architects Festival’ earlier this year. The event was organized by the Indian Institute of Architects, IIA, at its Chandigarh-Punjab Chapter. Almost 750 architects, urban planners, interior designers and architecture students had participated in the event. His thesis is titled ‘Spatial Porosity in Architecture’ and it aims at understanding the earth, its natural formation, natural transformation, composition, material qualities and their impact on the architecture. Fasih ud din is currently working as in-house architect for Imran Khan’s Namal University Project.
