A step ahead: Ufone restores Facebook and Twitter apps for BlackBerry

Ufone has restored the Facebook and Twitter apps for its Blackberry customers. The access to social networking websites was blocked last year in May. PTA was directed, by the Lahore High Court, to block these websites across Pakistan, on allegations of containing blasphemous content. The move was triggered after a contest invited users to draw caricatures of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The users could access the apps and they were able to use Facebook and Twitter via the BlackBerry browser. Recently, the services have been restored but a content filtering solution has also been installed, restricting access to specific Facebook pages banned by the local authorities. It is hoped that such a move will restore the confidence of users after facing a complete blackout of services for nearly a week
