And not so long ago, once again we suggested the concerned authorities towards this serious issue and may be this is the time we all are in a good position to witness some actions.

In this regards, recently a petition was filed in the court to take necessary measures for the rapid spread of illegal content in the society, specifically obscene one.

Petitioner, Sohaib Ahmed, went off the view that concerned authorities should take some action to prevent the increasing penetration of this evil in our society.

He said that it is the responsibility of the state to prevent prostitution, illegal drugs, gambling, printing and publication of obscene content in the society.

He said:

Fearing surfing of pornography by children and employees, parents and businessmen have urged the government to introduce filtering devices on the internet.

Therefore he asked court to direct Ministry of Telecommunication to block these websites.

Court’s Action:

Lahore High Court has issued a notice to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Ministry of Religious Affairs to submit their viewpoint over the control of circulation of explicit content on the internet.

Yesterday Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan of Lahore Highcourt, asked the correspondents to give their comments on the prevailing issue within the period of four weeks.

Pleader, Advocate Fahad Ahmad Siddiqi, said that necessary steps are required for the eradication of obscene content.

He said that parents and teachers have repeatedly urged government and concerned authorities to prevent this issue by introducing filtering devices and denying access to such websites.

In a state like Pakistan where Muslim law and constitution prevails, it is clearly stated that all the Muslims should lead their lives according to the basic principles of Islam, he said.

He said that children are very much vulnerable to this content and may slip any time, even unintentionally.
