Yasmin Masood Takes Up PSEB Charge

After his two-year tenure, Imran Zia has resigned from his post of Managing Director at Pakistan Software Export Board, PSEB. Until the position is filled, Yasmin Masood has been given the responsibility to look after PSEB as Managing Director. Currently, Yasmin Masood is working as Joint Secretary Admin at the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). The government, however hoping to fill up the position as soon as possible and has even advertised for the vacancy. For the position of MD, the government is demanding a candidate from the IT industry with experience in International Marketing, Business Development and Project Management. Moreover, the right candidate should have at least 15 years of experience and should have headed either an IT or ITeS (IT enabled Services) company or an IT consulting organization in the last few years.

KCCI Proposes Independent Trade Portal for Businessmen

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, KCCI, in collaboration with the Information National ICT R&D Fund, organized a seminar at its office; ‘Promoting ICT Applications in Business, Industry and masses of Pakistan.’ At the seminar, KCCI President, Mian Abrar Ahmad, stressed upon the need to take maximum advantage of ICT in order to search new global markets. He also proposed to develop a Portal of Trade that could benefit the businessmen in tapping new markets. For the portal, he also advised forming a committee of its representatives, members of federal and provincial IT ministries. Several other famous personalities, including Sualeh Ahmed Faruqui, Secretary IT Department and Dr. Syed Aun Abbas, CEO National ICT R&D Fund, also insisted on using and promoting ICT to improve the economy.

Mobilink marks 2012 as the year of ‘Elevating Consumer Experience’

According to several online news sources, Mobilink recently held a press conference where it highlighted its achievements in 2011 and presented the company’s targets for the year 2012. The conference was led by Mobilink’s President and CEO, Rashid Khan. The objective of the press conference is still unknown but it appears that the company wanted to highlight its performance. The CEO also said that Mobilink is ‘the leading cellular service provider with the trust of over 34 million customers and investment of $3.9 or PKR 251 billion to date.’ He added that they are the country’s largest network with 8,575 cell sites and 6,500km of fiber optic backbone. Mobilink provides uninterrupted connectivity in 20,000 cities, towns and villages along with international roaming in 144 countries in partnership with over 300 operators. About 3G Technology, Rashid Khan said, “It is the need of the hour as the volume of data transmission has increased tremendously since Pakistani consumers have more awareness.”
