Oracle releases Communications Data Model

Oracle announced the release of Oracle Communications Data Model 11.2.5 that enables Communications Service Providers (CSPs) to analyze multiple data types. These include revenue, customer, network fault and performance, and provisioning/service activation data. Oracle Communications Data Model is a pre-built Data Warehouse with a comprehensive database schema that maintains a par-standard data mining capabilities. The new data warehouse also maintains a wide array of dashboards, all focused on communications industry business challenges. The product, which is a key component of the Oracle Exadata Intelligent Warehouse Solution for Communications, is certified by the TM Forum and it provides CSPs with critical business insights. In addition, the new release includes Oracle Communications Network Charging and Control Adapter for Oracle Communications Data Model.

PTI Facebook Pages Hacked

Hackers have hacked more than 30 official pages of PTI on Facebook. This came to light when thousands of Pakistani Facebook users could not access the fan pages after repeated attempts. According to the President of PTI’s student wing Karachi, Arsalan Ghumman, several pages including that of Imran Khan, ISF and Dr. Alvi were hacked at 3 p.m. on Friday. He also said that they were trying to recover the pages and were in constant contact with Facebook authorities. Moreover, complete details regarding who performed this act will be announced to the media in a press conference.

Telecom Sector Likely to Attract Huge FDI in 2HFY12

The Telecom sector of Pakistan is expected to draw one and half billion dollars Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), exact amount $1.585 billion, safely by the second half of the financial year 2011-12. The said amount is expected to be earned after the auction of the 3G licenses, totaled $785 million, with the remaining privatization amount of PTCL, $800 million, expected from Etisalat. The auction for 3G licenses, is scheduled to take place on March 28-29 separately for spectrum of 800MHz and 1900-2100MHz valid for period of eight and 15 years respectively. The auction is expecting participation from local and new foreign players. The license for 800MHz will be issued after 50% payment will be made within 30 working days and the rest in 5 equal installments. On the other hand, the license 1900-2100MHz will be issued after 100% payment within the 60 working days. Additionally, Ministry of Finance has spoken to Etisalat for the payment of remaining $800 million and it is expected the amount of purchased share will be paid this year.

Baluchistan government bans mobile phones in colleges

Soon after the ban on mobile phones usage in Punjab schools and colleges, the Provincial Government of Baluchistan has also decided to ban the use of mobile phones in provincial schools and colleges. Tahir Mehmood, Baluchistan Minister for Education, commented that the government will soon be issuing the notification of the ban. In addition to the ban on mobile phones, the provincial government is also planning to impose a ban on smoking in the educational institutes. According to various reports, provincial governments are taking these steps because they realize the malice mobile phone usage and smoking has brought to the educational institutes.
