Remember earlier when we showed you a video of a jailbroken iPhone 3G running Android 2.3 Gingerbread? Well the people behind that project, iDroid Project that is, have finally released Android Gingerbread as a binary package for iPhone 3G, 2G and the 1st generation iPod touch.

People owning iPhone 4,iPad and the iPhone 3GS need not to worry as Android ports for these devices are said to be coming soon as well. In case you forgot, we’re talking about this video:

Being a preview release only, this package is not distributed via Bootlace, but rather it has to be downloaded and installed manually by following the instructions given here.

This is a preview release of Android Gingerbread (2.3.1) for Apple devices, I am busy with other projects for a few weeks and the other 3 active developers are working on porting openiboot to the iPhone 4, iPad and 3GS, so I thought I’d put a test build out for everyone to have a mess around with, please read this post fully before trying it.

This release is for iPhone 2G,  iPhone 3G & iPod Touch 1G and is ONLY available as a binary package.

Obviously, for you to try this out on your iPhone 3G, 2G and 1st gen. iPod touch, a jailbreak is mandatory. Let us see when this Android port is released for the current generation of iOS devices.
