‘Fotoshop by Adobe’: A Hilarious Parody Ad Featuring Photoshop [Video]

This is probably the most hilarious thing you will see today! Film maker Jesse Rosten was inspired to make this Photoshop/ beauty advert parody after watching an infomercial for a cosmetics line one sleepless night, and he did well!

The result is this awesome video that is simply hilarious. What's even more funny is the tagline used to describe this parody informercial, "This commercial isn't real, neither are society's standards of beauty".

The ad looks all the more hilarious because most of it is true. You know what they say, beauty is as good as the latest version of Photoshop.

Download Firefox 10 For Windows And OS X

If you’re a Firefox user then you now have a new version to download, with the popular browser being updated to version 10.

Other than being a nice round number, version 10 brings with it a few minor alterations that are not going to set the pulse racing, unless you have a particular hankering for a ‘forward’ button that hides itself until it has a function?

Oh, you do? Well then, there you go.

Other updates include support for full-screen web apps, perfect for games and the like, as well as extension management improvements across the board. With Firefox’s biggest pull being the huge number of extensions that are currently available to it, anything that makes the browser handle them better is going to get the thumbs up from us!

Antialiasing for WebGL is also now implemented, according to the new version’s release notes.

Firefox version 10 also sees the addition of an "Extended Support Release," which allows the enterprise to install Firefox without it updating quite so often as everyone else’s browser. Security updates will be applied as and when they are available, but regular updates will not. The idea here is that support departments do not need to worry about supporting a new version of the browser every six weeks.

That six week update cycle is something which began nine months ago, and that new cycle has seen Mozilla take Firefox from version 4 to the 10 release we’re talking about here. Google’s Chrome also sports a similarly speedy update cycle, with the search giant’s browser currently on something of a market share charge. While both currently have similar shares, Google’s Chrome is without a doubt the one that is very much on an upswing.

Firefox 10

Firefox version 10 will be a silent update for those of you who already have an earlier version installed, or new users can download the app afresh should they so wish.

Use of both Chrome and Firefox is mixed at Redmond Pie Towers, with Google’s offering feeling slightly slicker than our old friend Firefox. We’ll be sure to give this new release a buzz soon though, but do let us know how you find it on Facebook, Twitter or indeed, Google Plus.

Facebook Could File For IPO Next Week. Could Be The Next $100 Billion Company!

If WSJ’s sources are correct, we could all be witnesses for one of the biggest IPO fillings for a US technology company in history. With more than 800 million users, Facebook’s value is estimated at anywhere between $80 to $100 billion and it’s highly expected that the company could raise up to $10 billion in it’s initial public offering.

facebook IPO

Since a lot of years, analysts have been waiting for Facebook to file for IPO. Meanwhile, Facebook didn’t do so as Mark Zuckerburg didn’t want employees to care about stocks but about great products. It’s valuation as well as users kept on sky rocketing, leaving behind the competition in dust and becoming one of the most valued and sought after companies on the Internet. Microsoft had bought 1.6% shares on Facebook back in 2007, at a price of $240 million, which boosted the overall estimated value of Facebook to $15 billion. Some rough calculations show that if Facebook is valued at $75 billion after IPO, Microsoft’s shares would be worth around $1.2 billion. Not a bad investment.

Facebook was started in 2004 by Mark Zuckerburg and has turned out to be such a dream success that entrepreneurs can’t even imagine it. Aged 27 now, Zuckerburg’s worth over $17.5 billion and is considered the youngest billionaire in the world. As a CEO of Facebook, his shares in the company are %24 as of 2010 so his own worth is bound to increase tremendously if the IPO is to go through.

Keep in mind that this isn’t the first time that rumors are being strongly heard about Facebook going public. But Facebook has also halted trading in secondary markets for a few days which is giving more power to these rumors. Stakes are so high that valuation below $75 billion could be termed as disappointing.

Could Facebook manage to pull off a $10 billion IPO? Sounds difficult but highly likely considering, well, it’s Facebook.

Just one in ten Facebook users support ‘timeline’ feature

It has recently emerged that Facebook’s Timeline, which is expected to expose users’ entire history on the website, will become mandatory for all. However, just one in 10 Facebook users actually seem to support the idea of making the biographical ‘timeline’ feature compulsory. The feature will group together all publicly viewable messages, photographs and comments by date. The idea of the new feature was to “let people know the whole story of your life in a single page.” The changes are proving controversial though, and some critics claim it could erode users’ privacy. A survey conducted in this regard said only 8% of users said they liked the change while nearly 51% were worried by the format.

NA body’s meeting 3G Policy: Shaikh grilled for not allowing IT Sect to give presentation

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecom has show concern over Federal Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh’s reaction to 3G Technology. The NA committee asked the Finance Minister to provide justification for not allowing the Secretary IT to give a presentation over 3G. All members of the committee said that the 3G policy is an important issue and wished to know if their recommendations have been included in the policy. The committee is worried in this matter because they believe that Abdul Hafeez Shaikh made a poor decision of privatizing PTCL and may also be making a poor decision related to the 3G Policy. The chairman of the committee has asked the Secretary IT to provide a detailed presentation over 3G on or after February 8, 2012. The IT Secretary has assured that the copy of the presentation will be provided to the committee in advance.

Opposition Suddenly Wakes Up to Oppose 3G

Opposition Suddenly Wakes Up to Oppose 3G

By Aamir Attaa · Tuesday, Jan 31, 2012 11 Comments

3G Auctiondelay thumb Opposition Suddenly Wakes Up to Oppose 3GSeemingly opposition party, namely PML(N), was shaken by a sudden news that Pakistan is auctioning three 3G licenses on March 29th, 2012 at a base price of USD 210 million for one license.

Apparently, they weren’t aware of the development and knew of it only after PTA advertised the auction dates and information memorandum for 3G auctioning.

As we reported last week, senators from PML(N) are opposing the auction, terming it a loot sale, meaning that the base price for 3G license is too low. They also fear of corruption during the auction and hence want to stop it for good. Senators in fact related 3G auction with PTCL’s privatization and doubted that it could turn into another financial scandal.

To put the fact straight, opposition has every right of arguing the procedures, price, terms and anything involved with the license auctioning, but not at this point of time. How great it could be if they have had discussed this earlier, maybe six months ago, or say year ago, even two years ahead of now.

Opposition party is maybe not aware of fact that 3G policy was in the making for last few years, and it followed all necessary procedures to get passed out from Ministry of Information Technology, federal cabinet, Prime minister and was at last given into hands of PTA for execution.

Just for records, after last week’s opposition for 3G by senators, the matter was sent to National Assembly’s standing committee on Information Technology and Telecom, which had its meeting yesterday.

It was yesterday when committee unveiled that its recommendations were not incorporated in 3G policy. Chairman of committee (a PMLN leader) actually believes that India also introduced 3G policy but some kick backs were reported and the same wrong-practices are expected in Pakistan.

Let me clear this point again, this NA committee and all other concerned senators are so right about questioning the government about 3G policy and auction procedures â€" but why now? When every thing is ready in a plate to be served finally?

Some Interesting Facts About Apple’s $100 Billion Cash Hoard [INFOGRAPHIC]

We all know Apple’s rolling in the dough. It seems each time the company releases its quarterly results those numbers just keep on growing.

    Apple info header

The recent release of the fourth quarter’s numbers had Apple’s profits at a record high, with $13.6 billion being added to the company’s war chest during the period.

New Apple CEO Tim Cook said during the recent earnings call that “we’re thrilled with our outstanding results and record-breaking sales of iPhones, iPads and Macs.”

Yeah, we can imagine you are, Tim.

The money is only going to continue to flood in with upcoming iPad 3 and iPhone 5 releases on the cards, but with Apple’s money seemingly knowing no limits, it’s often difficult to visualize just how much money is currently sat in its bank accounts.

Just to put Apple’s current financial situation into context, it’s worth remembering one little fact: Apple could conceivably write off the entire public debt of eight of Europe’s countries. Slovakia, Luxemburg, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Cyprus, Estonia and Malta could all see their debt reduced to zero if Apple decided to be charitable one time. That’s both awesome and incredibly scary at the same time!

If you work for Apple it’s also worth thinking of the company’s money as such: if the company decided to share its cash pile out between its entire staff then each would receive a massive $6,622,516 windfall. It’s probably not on the cards though, so don’t get too excited just yet!

There are plenty of similar little tidbits on this infographic we got here, which has been put together to help us mere mortals get our heads around just how filthy rich Apple is.

    apples-cash

The only real question that remains now is whether Apple will eventually own the entire planet, or decide that the best way to go is to just build a giant space ship and take itself off to Mars.

Or build its own moon. That would be probably the craziest thing any company would do, but it’s pretty nifty isn’t it?

Leave your thoughts about the infographic above on our Facebook and Google+ fan pages, we love to hear from you guys and your take on it.

3G Licenses: Waiting Over or Is It?

    (For PC World Pakistan)

The fate of 3G licenses seems to be in a sort of titillating balance as various parties in Pakistan fight both for and against the introduction of 3G licensing in the country. While on the one hand there are government organizations all set to hold the auctioning of 3G licenses in the country by March 2012, there are telecom operators in the local telecom sector, such as Mobilink and Zong, who have specifically stated their interest in getting 3G licenses. The scenario now gets somewhat political with leading opposition parties in the country stating that the government should not opt for auctioning off 3G licenses yet.

This was recently stated in various reports, including the one added here. “Government of Pakistan’s plan to auction new telecom licenses came under scrutiny yesterday when opposition senators warned the government to not go ahead with the plan without taking them into confidence. The senators included Senator Pervez Rashid of PML-N, Haji Adeel, Ilyas Bilour of ANP, Col. Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi (retd) of MQM and Prof. Khurshid of JI amongst others. Terming the auction a “license to loot”, the senators demanded the chair block its issuance. They have stated it is not viable to issue the advanced technology at such cheap rates and the time-period factor is not acceptable at any cost. They further said that with such relaxed rules, the auction would be more like a charity.”

While we certainly do not, unlike our esteemed politicians, pretend to know the ins and outs of politics or those concerns whereby the introduction of 3G Technology in the country should be delayed, it cannot yet be denied that the Pakistani audience is, as a general rule, more or less ready for 3G Technology in the country. According to a report published some months back, Pakistani mobile operators have been contemplating the launch of 3G Technology, for at least the past 3 years. According to this same report, “Procrastinating the launch earlier had been justified by nominal GPRS subscriptions in the country, presence of costly multi-mode (GSM/UMTS) handsets, and only a small percentage of existing 3G-enabled cell phones within the subscribers reach by 2008, as compared to today.”

Absar Taqvi, Team Lead at Zumbeel.com had said that “3G and all other newer technologies are very data-rich technologies, and if you really want them to give good revenues to service providers, you have to create an immense need for them as well.” He had suggested telecom service providers get various segments of the society to understand how 3G could benefit them. This could involve creating more informative advertisements that educate people on how to use 3G services to pay bills, or download and watch movies or perform a million other tasks that could enhance their lifestyles. Then, as Absar put it, these service providers could “get back to customers and focus on telling them that they now have a million applications ready in our applications store that can be rendered to people over 3G networks.”

And now, it really seems as though the situation might just finally have been greatly altered. The smartphones for both low and high-end markets that have recently been flooding Pakistan have had a lot to do with how people in Pakistan now view 3G Technology. Furthermore, the excessive revenue generation over handsets driven by mobile multimedia, have only proved how ready the local market actually is for 3G. Then again, local telecom providers, of which five are currently operating in the country, have all shown an inclination to launch 3G in Pakistan. Mobilink and Ufone have partnered to launch smartphones that are generally both 2G and 3G compatible, Zong and Mobilink have at various times publically stated their desire to bid in the upcoming 3G license auctions and the other telecom operators are also gearing up for the launch.

In this regard, Rashid Khan, president of Pakistan Mobile Communication Limited also known as Mobilink briefed that “the firm “is evaluating the information memorandum of 3G spectrum and has decided to participate in the bidding”. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has set the auction date for March 29, 2012 and will allow a maximum number of three licenses for 3G services. Furthermore, as per the agreement, a firm cannot bid for more than two spectrum.

Several of the local, leading mobile companies already bought the requisite equipment to launch and operate 3G in the country. The Government is all set to generate an estimated PKR 75 billion through this auction. The bid starts at $210 million, (the bids for 2G Technology started at $290 million) so it is expected that all the local telecom operators will go for 3G licenses. The stage is all set for 3G licensing in the country… all that is actually needed is for the star of the show, the 3G license themselves to become available in Pakistan.
