Meta Widget For Android Lets You Create A Custom Widget Out Of Any Web Content
by GadgetGizmodo
Custom widgets are a significant aspect of Android, and one of the pull factors as to why somebody would purchase a device running Googleâs mobile operating system. Thus, most people have widgets on their home screens, and although the range of widgets available is pretty broad, as anybody who likes to perfect the look of their device can vouch â" there are always those occasions where youâre left wishing you could create a specific one that hasnât already been made and released.
If youâre not adept to creating widgets by yourself, an app by the name of Meta Widget has your back. Created by XDA Developers member ftgg99, it allows you to take a portion of the web (a lump of text, an entire page â" whatever â" and turn it into a working widget for your home screen.
As the developer states, essentially any content can be parsed from a website, hence itâs an app which will cater to most needs. Once the widget has been created, it can be tweaked at the discretion of the user, and can be set to be automatically updated (handy for blogrolls and other frequently-updated content), or simply manually updated when a user interacts with it, although the auto feature does require a full license key to be purchased.
Itâs in beta, so donât expect the butter-smooth experience you would get from a polished app, but if youâre a big fan of widgets and can think of a couple of areas you like to frequent on the Web, then this one is certainly worth checking out.
In order to get started with Meta Widget, youâll need to have a device to hand running Android 2.1 or higher, and if you get stuck along the way or discover any glaring bugs, be sure to head over to the original app thread on XDA.
Itâs absolutely free of charge, so if you can cope with a few potential stability issues, then be sure to head over to the Google Play Store right now and give it a blast!
