Microsoft Restores Xbox live Services

Users will now be able to log onto Xbox live after Microsoft restores its Xbox live services. Microsoft informed its users in a tweet about the login problems to Xbox live from their Xbox console or Xbox Website. However, a few hours later, it posted on Twitter, “Xbox Live should be back up and running. Thank you for your patience. Game on!”

Microsoft has not commented on what caused the problem and how many users were affected. A spokeswoman in an email said, “Our engineering teams worked quickly to fix the problem and the service is online and fully operational.”

Xbox Live service is running in 35 countries with about 40 million users worldwide. The Xbox console, introduced in 2001 by Microsoft, competes with Nintendo Wii and Sony’s PlayStation.

Samsung Nexus Sales Ban Temporarily Lifted

Good fortune is following Samsung. On one hand, the heavy sales in the European markets have brought windfall profits and on the other hand, the ban on sales of Samsung’s Nexus has been lifted for some time.  This is a victory for Samsung, though small, over Apple after the US appeals court temporarily lifted the freeze on its Galaxy Nexus Smartphone. Earlier, the US District Court ordered a ban on sales of Samsung Galaxy Nexus Smartphone and Galaxy 10.1 tablet in US and turned down Samsung’s appeal to lift the ban. The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit suspended the ban on Galaxy Smartphones, but the district court order on sales of Galaxy tablet will stay. Apple and Samsung are involved in lawsuits in 10 different countries, both trying to reign supreme in the Mobile market.

Yahoo, Facebook Resolve Lawsuit

Facebook and Yahoo have ended their patent dispute with a strategic deal that involves no cash. The companies were involved in a lawsuit for over the past four months.  In March, Yahoo! sued Facebook calling it infringement of 10 of its patents while Facebook denied the claim and in turn alleged Yahoo of breaching 10 of its patents. Both the parties were believed to be in negotiations for some time. Both the parties are believed to be signing a peace treaty and will also begin new advertising partnership. A press release quoted Yahoo’s interim CEO Ross Levinsohn: “We are excited to develop a deeper partnership with Facebook, and I’m grateful to Sheryl and her team for working hard together with our team to develop this dynamic agreement… Combining the premium content and reach of Yahoo as the world’s leading digital media company with Facebook provides branded advertisers with unmatched opportunity.”

Auditor General Reports PTA’s Financial Embezzlement

In its final report, Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has exposed a financial embezzlement by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) of worth Rs. 36.203 million in the year 2010-2011. In annual report for 2011-2012, AGP has reported PTA officials to enjoy financial benefits and allowances that violate Financial Division (Regulation wing) OM No. (15) R-4/04. According to it, existing allowances should be merged with the new basic pay hence would cease to be admissible upon introduction of new pay scales except those allowances which have been shown in new pay scales, or any other allowance, which the competent authority may approve from time to time with the occurrence of finance division.

Levinsohn Becomes Yahoo’s CEO

Ross Levinsohn, Yahoo’s Acting CEO is being made permanent. As per our sources, Hulu’s CEO Jason Kilar was shortlisted for the post but he turned down the offer. According to Levinsohn, Kilar was one of the last names on company’s shortlist. After the decline by Kilar, Levinsohn is seen as ‘Most Favorite’ choice to take over the job permanently.
