The Results Are In, Apple Tops Microsoft In Quarterly Sales, Profits

Microsoft today released its Q3 2011 financial results and they’re good with the numbers beating those expected by all the analysts with net income reaching a staggering $5.23billion.

Despite these results however, Apple has managed to beat them with regards to profit, as noted by TechCrunch’s MG Siegler.

Last October, despite Apple pulling ahead in revenue, the profit gap was about $1.1 billion in Microsoft’s favor. Last quarter, that gap was down to roughly a $600 million. And now, rather remarkable, it’s over $700 million in the other direction â€" a $1.3 billion swing in just one quarter. And you can probably expect that trend to continue.

When it comes to revenue, Apple is firmly in the lead too with $24.6 billion compared to Microsoft’s not-to-be-sneezed-at $16.43 billion â€" staggering numbers no matter which way you slice it.

Oh how things have changed in just a few short years. With Apple posting record sales figures quarter after quarter, the Cupertino outfit shows no sign of letting up while Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 is proving to be a similar story to the company’s older Windows Mobile â€" namely uninspiring. Perhaps their new partnership with Nokia will help things along in this regard.

No matter which side of the Apple-Microsoft divide you might fall on you have to admit, both companies know how to make money!

Google Talk Brings Video/Audio Chat to Android

Awesome updates from the Google Mobile team just keep rolling out. Recently Google released a Google Docs app for Android, and now comes the ability to video/voice chat using Google Talk. Similar applications, like Fring and Tango, have sought to bring a facetime-like experience to Android. Now, with video chat being built-in to Google Talk(on Android 2.3+), the use of alternative apps will be a choice, not a necessity. Here’s an overview of what you can expect in the potentially game-changing Google Talk update:

201104290223.jpg

What does it do?

The update brings the ability to video and voice chat with other gmail users. Users can chat with other Android users, along with those using Google Talk on their computer. Calls can be made over 3G and 4G(depending on carrier), and, of course, Wi-Fi.

How does it work?

Next to your Google Talk contacts, a video/voice chat button pops up. Simply press the button to initiate a call. Text chats are overlaid on top of the video so you don’t have to leave your call to read them. If you leave the chat to do something else, the video will pause, freeing up your screen. However, the audio will continue like a normal call, with the video resuming upon entering the call once again.

This looks awesome! When can I get it?

The Google Talk update will be distributed to Nexus S devices via an over-the-air update for Android 2.3.4. Some time in the future, this update will be released to other Android 2.3+ devices as well. Keep in mind that the Nexus S is a developer’s phone, meaning that a public release of the new Google Talk could be as far away as 3 months.

Here’s a video from Google demoing the new Google Talk update:

While the Google Talk update isn’t necessarily imminent, it’s definitely something to look forward to. We’ll be sure to let you know once this update becomes publicly available, so stay tuned!

After the minor Firefox 4.0.1 update, we wrote about Firefox 5.0 Alpha 2, and now â€" Firefox 6.0 Alpha 1. The first alpha version is now available and at least we don’t find any major changes in it so far. May be in the next few releases.

Can FM Stations Be More Social?

FM Stations in Pakistan started tapping into the community for news and updates long before Twitter hit the scene. Citizen Journalism sits at the heart of community radio. But unlike the social media which allows users to interact because of the power of its interactive media, radio, like other traditional media, has settled into a one-way street â€" you have an update, make a call and have your voice recorded so it can be streamed at the appropriate time to the listeners. Unlike social media where you are in control of not only what the update is and how you send that update out but also when you stream it out.

But this is all common and rather old knowledge. So why bother to bring it up now?

Well, I am an avid listener of Apna Karachi FM 107. Have been since the very beginning. If you want a traffic update about anything happening in Karachi, chances are the RJs and production team at FM107 will know because they have a loyal community that keeps them updated.

But that controlled delivery of information irks me. Despite the fact that their site finally went up online, listeners still have to wait until the RJ makes a traffic update announcement. Should the stations make use of GPS maps or citizen reporting sites such as See N Report to encourage more interaction amongst the community? Should FM stations use RSS feeds to push updates to user cell phones? Should SMS alerts be used?

For a radio station, what should their digital strategy be? Should they even have one?

What do you think? What advice would you share with the radio channels to make them more savvy of their listeners?

It’s been on the cards but today one Belgian retailer confirmed 100% that the white iPhone 4 is nigh, with stocks of the mythical and much-delayed device arriving ready for sale.

The photos given to Engadget show boxes of both 16GB and 32GB handsets â€" and if you’re in the Benelux region you can even order one right now, though we obviously can’t comment on the site in question as we’ve never used them.

Finally! Time to Move on and Find another basket

I write this post with a very heavy heart. I registered the domain for this blog on Dec 31st, 2006 and officially started off with my My First Post on Jan 13, 2007.

That tells me that I have invested a time period of over 4 years, translated into over 35,000 hours and I am happy and very much satisfied with what I have done. Heck! Technorati even tells me that this blog has surpassed most other tech blogs to be included in the list of ‘Top 100 Technology’ and ‘Top 100 Gadgets’ blog around the world.

However, with much satisfaction and success comes the challenge to maintain and live up to what people expect from you. This blog, I can proudly say, at least in Pakistan, started what I call the ‘pedia frenzy’ and since then things have gotten out of hands for me. Not only did people steal the identity of this blog (all the blogs of the same name on .net, .eu, .in, .org etc are not owned by me) but they declined to credit me for something that I started and to be honest I do not feel bad about it.

This blog, my baby as I call it, taught me how to love doing something in life and still make it lucrative. Trust me, it wasn’t about the money, it was never about the money, it was about how one in the information-era is capable to consume and share information. That’s what it was all about but in the course that I followed I found many people were there with me for their personal benefits, to which I feel no remorse; all of them probably had their reasons.

Then, a recent incident, with this blog made me re-think the whole strategy on which I am working. Google banned AdSense on this blog passing a reason that does not make a bit of sense to me. This blog, as Google says, is violating the Adsense quality guidelines for user-experience. For me, it doesn’t make sense as this blog has always been in compliance with all policies and there is not a single reason why our blog’s revenue should face such a major slump.

But then, it hit me. It’s not just AdSense. It is how God wants to communicate with me and tell me that I need to move on. No one should put all their eggs in the same basket and that’s what I have been doing for a very long time. This blog will always remain dear to me and this is in no way a good-bye, this blog will keep running even if we make any revenue out of it or not.

The purpose of this blog post is to let our readers and friends know what I am going through and how they can extract a lesson out of it. God is watching and trust me! karma is a bitch. What I want you to learn from my story is not how you can become a millionaire with blogging rather how you can make a living out of something you love and something you want to do.

I will be shifting my main focus to iPhoneism.com, a new blog that I recently started with Adnan Farooqui. He has served as the editor at this blog for quite some time and will be my partner in the new project. I would like to thank him for all his work and dedication.

For those who wonder what I am doing right now, I work for a digital media agency called bramerz and I am very happy with my day-time job.

TiECON Paves The Way For Local Entrepreneurs

The Indus Entrepreneurs, TiE, will be holding the first international TiECON Pakistan 2011 in collaboration with their media partners, CIO Pakistan. TiECON Pakistan 2011 is an event which aims to help aspiring entrepreneurs in Pakistan. TiE is a global, nonprofit organization with a focus on promoting entrepreneurship, especially amongst the youth of Pakistan. TiE was established in 1992 by a small group of executives from Silicon Valley who felt that what Pakistan needed to be able to move forward into the next millennium with young entrepreneurs who would be able to take the country forward. Consequently TiE was set up and it has since grown into a vibrant and professional voluntary organization dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurship.

TiE has more than 13,000 members and over 2,500 charter members in 56 chapters across 13 countries. The members come from a variety of business and academic backgrounds. They are now uniting in their efforts of trying “to provide a dynamic and vibrant environment in which entrepreneurs can share their experiences and draw from a common pool of knowledge.” The culmination of these efforts lies in two facts: the number of business ideas that TiE has actually facilitated and the fact that it is now going to host an international conference to generate greater interest in entrepreneurial activities amongst the youth of Pakistan.

The entire TiECON 2011 event has been developed using ‘Bounce Back!’ as its main theme, and is symbolic of the fact that Pakistan is now ready to, figuratively speaking ‘bounce back’ in the face of all the economic woes that have hitherto beset the country. To quote the organization, “TiECON Pakistan 2011 will be one historic event spearheaded by all three Pakistani TiE Chapters; Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.” TiECON Pakistan 2011 will be held in the capital city of Islamabad on April 30, 2011. The event will also guarantee both national and international exposure for the aspiring entrepreneurs participating since TiECON 2011 will be hosted by both local and  international entrepreneurs. The event also promises to have “iconic businessmen and investors share, with the attendees, heuristics of their rise to success.”

    Highlights of the event

Apart from the main event, featuring more than nine renowned keynote speakers, TiECON 2011 will also have a number of highlights that will make the conference both unique and fun. Spark Corner will comprise of six different sessions where small groups of approximately 50 to 60 people will be able to have an interactive discussion with an inspirational speaker. Startup City will be an exhibition area where nearly 60 entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to showcase their ventures to attract investors, renowned entrepreneurs and other participants.  Two workshops, comprising of 150 participants each, will also be hosted alongside the main TiECON event. These workshops will aim to train aspiring entrepreneurs and students and teach them the basic entrepreneurial techniques. The Sponsor’s Exhibition will feature exclusive stalls for sponsors to exhibit their products or services. An Innovation Corner will also be set up where Pakistani products will be showcased and given the uniquely beneficial opportunity to seek partnerships.

Mentoring Sessions will form an almost integral part of the event. Here, registered delegates will be able to send online mentoring requests through the TiECON website so that one-on-one mentoring sessions between mentors and subjects can be held parallel to the main event. The Charter Members Lounge will host sessions for the Charter Members of TiE so that members may have the opportunity to come and meet together for networking purposes.

The entire aim of TiECON 2011 is to be able to help the Pakistani nation surmount all the numerous troubles, the natural, political, economic troubles that beset it and rise above them to achieve success for themselves and their country.

PTCL Conducts LTE Trials with Huawei and ZTE

PTCL Conducts LTE Trials with Huawei and ZTE

By Absar Taqvi · Tuesday, Apr 26, 2011 2 Comments

PTCL logo thumb PTCL Conducts LTE Trials with Huawei and ZTEMany who bashed around Etisalat since its partial takeover of PTCL had to curb their negativities for some time when the news of PTCL’s commercial LTE trials found carriers.

Although majority telecom veterans and industry analysts are not sure how things will shape up if the trials and the subsequent negotiation prove successful.

As confirmed by many inside sources, PTCL is conducting LTE trials with Huawei and ZTE. We are further told that both the vendors signed Memorandums of Understating (MoUs) with the landline giant last month. The trials, although, are indoor in nature.

Analysts believe that it will take a year or so more for the network to go on-air due to the lack customer equipment, such as handsets, tablets, dongles etc.

According to an email circulated at a local telecom group, the First LTE Data call was made last Sunday night and speed observed was around 32 Mbps.  This speed was observed using 1900 band. The working engineers believe this speed can cross 100Mbps if some other band is used.

Talking about technologies, Telenor Pakistan is also known to have a dedicated team working on 3G in Islamabad. Nothing has been commercially laid out by the operator though.

One thing is for sure: it is all China. After knocking out European and North American vendors out of major businesses from Pakistan, the vendors have not even left the only non-cellular operator, i.e. PTCL.

ZTE, however, has been associated with PTCL since long.

Some say that the cellular operators might lobby against the initiative to secure themselves and their respective futures with 3GPP technologies. If they do so, I hope not through the means Mobilink conjured up with PTA to falter CDMA operators earlier in the previous decade.

This Android App Shows What Your Android Phone Has Been Tracking About You

With all the furore surrounding Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS and the way both operating systems keep tabs on our locations, it was only a matter of time before a developer took it upon themselves to try to give us back some control. The first step in that process is seeing just what handsets know about us, and one Android developer has written an app to do just that.

XDA member mopodo has put together an app called Location Cache Viewer that will show users just what information their phone has been collecting about them. Along with your location data the app will also show phone signal strength and the WiFi hotspots you’ve been connected to. This is all information Google also has access to.

    1

Of course there’s nothing you can really do with the data once you’ve got it, but it might just make you feel a bit better â€" or more likely just add to the panic sweeping the internet at the moment!

    Strike Two for Pakistan

Pakistan’s IT sector came in the limelight again, earlier this week when Lahore-based Pepper.pk launched another Blackberry application that became one of the most popular to be downloaded on the RIM App Network. Pepper.pk, a project of Five River Technologies had earlier launched a Photo Editor application using which Blackberry users could snap and edit their pictures as they wished on their phone set.

The news of Pepper’s second astounding success was hailed with pleasure in Pakistan’s IT sector. According to a number of people, this proves the fact that the Pakistani IT industry has ‘what it takes’ to make a mark in the global applications market. “Pakistan’s IT industry has come a long, long way… pepper.pk’s laudable achievement proves that not only are Pakistan-based software companies ultra-competitive, they are, quite literally, second to none,” was one opinion expressed on several websites.

Pakistan, an emerging market has risen to the point where it is seen as one of the main hubs where work may be outsourced. Neighboring India is another such country whose well-developed IT industry has dominated the global outsourcing scene. According to Naseer Akhtar, CEO and President of InfoTech, “India earns nearly $50 billion in the IT industry’s international market while Pakistan earns only $2 billion.” The figures show, and analysts and businessmen confirm that Pakistan does not have the stable standing in the international IT market that India enjoys, despite the quality of our work being allegedly much better than India’s. However, twice now, in the last four months alone, two Pakistani-made applications not only made it to the most popular Blackberry applications, but also topped the list. Both the applications were designed by Lahore-based Pepper.pk.

The first application was a Photo Editor app which allowed users to snap and edit pictures on their Blackberry phone sets. Furthermore, the photo editor application was among the top five selling applications on RIM’s App World and voted the best in December 2010. Now, Pepper.pk developed an application that would help people identify all those contacts who call them on their Blackberry phones. The application, available on RIM’s App World ensures that the phone’s LED screen glows a different, preset color for different contacts. For instance, the LED screen could glow red if the user’s boss calls or texts, but could be set to glow green in the call or SMS is from the user’s spouse, or friend. This app too has made it to the top of the charts in RIM’s App World.

However, surprisingly none of the apps developed in Pakistan seem to make their way to either the Google Applications Store or the App Store on Apple. The reason allegedly, is that applications developed in Pakistan, for either for the iOS or the Android are sold out to other countries from whence they make their way to their respective application markets. They are therefore not listed as applications developed in Pakistan, but are taken as applications coming from the interim country. Currently, some of the top applications on Apple are ‘Air Penguin’, ‘Angry Birds’, ‘Stupidness2’, ‘Tiny Wings’, ‘Fruit Ninja’ and ‘Camera+’. The top-ranking applications on Android are ‘Angry Birds’, ‘Death Worm’, ‘CNN App for Android phones’, ‘Robot Unicorn Attack’ and ‘Heart Attack’.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: do you think that Pakistani developers have what it takes to make better, world-class applications for different operating systems?

12.6 Megapixel iPhone 5 Camera With 1080p Video Recording Possible ?

The hype surrounding iPhone 5 is growing by the minute. Previously, we’ve seen countless rumours and speculations as to what the iPhone 5 may bring. However, the latest rumour on the internet to catch our eye is that iPhone 5 may include a 12.6 megapixel camera module from OmniVision which also allows for 1080p full HD video recording. Something’s amiss, no?

    Apple iPhone 5

It is being reported that OmniVision has made a new camera sensor dubbed OV12825 which will go into production starting June. This is one factor that induces that thought that the rumour might be legitimate after all, because we know no production roadmap has yet been penned down for the iPhone 5, and at the earliest, an iPhone 5 release has been slated for early 2012. OV12825 touts 12.6 megapixels and 1080p full HD video recording capability at 60 frames per second.

Now the factors that induce the thought that this rumour might not be true. First, no orders have been placed as yet by Apple for these new camera modules. Second, it is only being speculated that Apple may include OV12825 in iPhone 5 because the current iPhone 4 camera module is also supplied by OmniVision. However, there’s a serious contradiction there. Earlier this month, CEO of Sony coincidently let it slip that Sony will have trouble getting 8 megapixel camera sensors to Apple on time as their production facility in Sendai had suffered damages due to the recent natural calamities in Japan. The fact remains, is Apple finally ditching OmniVision for camera modules made by Sony? Or the image sensors that Sony is allegedly supplying to Apple, are for some other device? That is one question, that time will answer best.

    Unlock iOS 4.3.2 On iPhone 4, 3GS With Ultrasn0w Fixer For 4.3.2 [How-To Tutorial]

iPhone developer DjayB6 has released a new version of his “Ultrasn0w Fixer For 4.3.2” to make Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 unlock for both iPhone 4 and 3GS (old basebands only) compatible with the latest iOS 4.3.2 firmware.

    iOS-4.3.2

    Note:

    • There is no unlock for the new baseband on iOS 4.3.2. If your iPhone relies on a carrier unlock, DO NOT update to stock iOS 4.3.2.
    • Ultrasn0w Fixer for 4.3.2 supports unlock for basebands (01.59.00 / 04.26.08 / 05.11.07 / 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 / 06.15.00)
    • Ultrasn0w Fixer for 4.3.2 is NOT compatible with the following basebands (02.10.04 / 03.10.01 / 04.10.01 / 05.14.02 / 05.15.04 / 05.16.02)
    • iPhone 3GS users can upgrade to iPad’s 06.15.00 baseband to unlock on 4.3.2.
    • Upgrading iPhone 3GS baseband to the 06.15.00 iPad baseband to unlock MAY cause you to lose your GPS.

For iPhone 3GS Only: How to Update iPhone 3GS to 06.15.00 Baseband for Unlock:
Ultrasn0w 1.2.x unlocking requires that your iPhone 3GS is jailbroken with 06.15.00 baseband. Follow the complete guide posted here (with PwnageTool) or here (for Redsn0w) to update your iPhone 3GS baseband to 06.15.00 and jailbreak it on iOS 4.1 / 4.2.1 before proceeding with the following steps.

Step 1: First, you will have to jailbreak your iPhone 4 or 3GS on the latest iOS 4.3.2 firmware. Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.2 is currently limited to tethered boot only, though a full untethered jailbreak is in works, and will be out soon.

For tethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.2, use PwnageTool for Mac, step by step tutorials for which can be found below.

    • How to Jailbreak iPhone 4, 3GS on iOS 4.3.2 using PwnageTool
    • How to jailbreak iPad on iOS 4.3.2 using PwnageTool
    • How to jailbreak iPod touch 4G using PwnageTool

Note: DO NOT use Redsn0w. Doing so will result in updating of your iPhone’s baseband, in the process losing unlock, perhaps forever.

Step 2: Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can now unlock your iPhone on the supported basebands using Ultrasn0w Fixer for 4.3.2 from Cydia. To do this:

    • Start “Cydia” on your iPhone.

    • Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom.

    • Now touch on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:

    4.2.1 Unlock

    • Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type “http://djayb6.com” and touch on“Add Source” to add this repo if you haven’t already.

    Unlock 4.3.2

Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

    • After installation is completed. Search for “ultrasn0w fixer for 4.3.2” in Cydia and install this application. This app will automatically unlock your iPhone so that you can use it with any carrier.

    Ultrasn0w Fixer for 4.3.2

Step 3: Now simply restart your iPhone and voila! you should now have a fully unlocked iPhone 4 or 3GS, running iOS 4.3.2.

Samsung Galaxy Phones and Tablets Under Legal Fire From Apple!

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is suing Samsung over the Galaxy S smartphone line(Galaxy S 4G, Epic 4G, Nexus S) and the Samsung Galaxy Tab, specifically over the ‘look and feel’ of said devices. This is not the first lawsuit Apple has initiated with a crucial supplier, and likely will not be the last.

    201104190046.jpg

Samsung and Apple have a long-running relationship as Samsung provides the flash components for the iOS device line, as well as the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano. Both the A4 and A5 are based on Samsung technology. Recently, Apple has switched their MacBook Air SSDs from Toshiba to Samsung models.

    Apple’s comments:

“It’s no coincidence that Samsung’s latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging,” an Apple representative told Mobilized. “This kind of blatant copying is wrong, and we need to protect Apple’s intellectual property when companies steal our ideas.”

Be sure to check back for any developments on the Samsung/Apple lawsuit.

Key SaaS software executive leaving SAP

John Wookey, formerly of Oracle, is departing the company after three years
    By Chris Kanaracus
    IDG News Service (Boston Bureau)

BOSTON (04/18/2011) â€" SAP executive John Wookey, who was charged with developing a SaaS (software as a service) strategy for large enterprises, is leaving the vendor after about two-and-a-half years, the company said Monday.

SAP executive Peter Lorenz, to whom Wookey reported, will oversee the large enterprise SaaS division until a successor is named, said spokesman Jim Dever.

Wookey is leaving for personal reasons, Dever said. “He actually is going to spend some time with his family and figure out what he wants to do beyond that.”

“This certainly doesn’t change our commitment to the on-demand business,” Dever added. “We’ve hit a number of milestones.”

Wookey, whose title at SAP was executive vice president of Line of Business On Demand, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.

A high-profile hire for SAP, Wookey arrived at the company in November 2008 following a stint at rival Oracle, where he was an early driver of that company’s long-gestating Fusion Applications. At SAP, Wookey had been working on a series of SaaS applications meant to serve as extensions to the company’s flagship Business Suite.

One of the first products to emerge from Wookey’s team was the CRM (customer relationship management) application Sales on Demand. More are expected to be discussed at SAP’s Sapphire conference in Orlando next month.

His departure is “a significant loss for SAP,” as he had put together a star team including ex-Oracle and ex-Salesforce.com employees, said analyst Ray Wang, CEO of Constellation Research. Wookey also “put together the right esprit de corps to move forward,” Wang added.

“I definitely considered him in the top five most important people at SAP,” said Jon Reed, an independent analyst who closely tracks SAP. “Wookey had a lot of creative ideas but his work wasn’t done, so that’s the concern.”

While SAP’s large enterprise SaaS strategy was probably not going to generate major amounts of revenue this year, it is key to positioning the company as something other than “a legacy vendor living off maintenance revenues and hoping for the best,” Reed said.

Along with the large-enterprise SaaS strategy, SAP is selling Business ByDesign, an on-demand ERP (enterprise resource planning) suite aimed at midmarket companies as well as divisions of larger ones.

The applications for large enterprises are now based on ByDesign’s underlying platform, after first being targeted for a different set of technologies.

PTA Approves Mobilink’s RIO’s To Operators

PTA Approves Mobilink’s RIO’s To Operators

    By M Yasir · Tuesday, Apr 19, 2011 1 Comment

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has approved Reference Interconnection Offer (RIO) of Mobilink for facilitating different operators, seeking initiation of telecommunication services with its collaboration in its stronghold region having significant network infrastructure and subscribers.

Mobilink (Pakistan Mobile Communication Limited), which is considered as Significant Market Operator (SMP) is obliged to provide service to operators to minimize wasteful and uneconomic duplication of network facilities; the existence of fair competition among operators and users of one operator should be ensured on different networks’ users.

Mostly SMP is requested by operators for Call Termination and Short Message Conveyance services. Besides Mobilink, Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) and Special Communication Organization (SCO) as SMP operators have granted access to different operators for interconnection services in different telecom region.

PMCL is required, pursuant to Rule 13 of the Pakistan Telecommunication Rules, 2000, to enter into an interconnection agreement within ninety (90) days from the request of another operator.

Interconnection means the physical and logical linking of telecommunication networks used by the same or different operators in order to allow the users of one network to communicate with the users of other networks.

Interconnection services refer telecommunication services for the purpose of conveyance of intelligence between two connectable systems including any ancillary services which an operator has requested from another operator after entering into an agreement, PTA Interconnection Guidelines mentioned.

The services and facilities shall be provided on the basis of unbundled network element and be charged accordingly. That is, a requested operator shall only pay to SMP operator for the network components or facilitates that it requires.

The SMP operator shall not unfairly discriminate the terms and condition of interconnecting and provide the same quality of services it ensures to its customers, PTA Guidelines stated.

Mobilink has been allowed to provide interconnection services to interested operators as per agreement approved by the authority.

Accordingly Mobilink and requested operator will sign agreement on the approved modus operandi for services access, formula of charges, schedule of payment, quality of services, co-location and numbering formula, limitation of liability, intellectual property rights and etc.

The operator shall pay to PMCL charges for the services within the time frame specified, calculated in accordance with and/or as specified and amended from time to time.

For the avoidance of doubt, charges shall be payable by the operator to PMCL for any Calls or Short Messages terminating on the PMCL Network which are handed over from the Points of Interconnection, irrespective of the numbering series exchanged in terms of this Interconnection Agreement, it is stated in RIO agreement draft.

Each Party (Incumbent and Requested operator) is responsible for the safe operation of its network and shall take all necessary steps to ensure network with practicable measures.

The Parties shall manage their networks to minimise disruption to the services and they shall restore the services in the event of interruption or failure, it is stated in RIO agreement draft.

The Parties shall convey telephone numbers to each other in the national and international formats as contained in the Numbering Plan issued by the PTA.

Neither Party shall use or permit the use of any service, or install, connect, link or use (or permit the installation, connection, linking or use of) any telecommunications equipment in contravention of any law.

The Parties shall enter into an agreement to modify or replace the Interconnection agreement in accordance with any order, direction, determination or consent of the PTA, unless such order, direction, determination or consent is subject to a legal challenge.

Best Buy iPad 2 Sale Possibly Starting This Weekend?

When reports circulated that Best Buy was holding back iPad 2 stock, many thought the retailer had some sort of falling out with Apple. However, it looks like that is not the case. Engadget got its hands on a leaked screenshot which hints that a new Best Buy iPad 2 sale could be starting this weekend.

It is still not known what sort of an event is Best Buy organizing as part of a massive iPad 2 sale? If its just Best Buy selling iPads, that’s not something to get excited about, is it? The best guess would be that Best Buy would offer some sort of a deal with the iPad 2, a bundled gadget or accessory maybe? Don’t pin your hopes up for a discount on the iPad 2, considering the fact that Apple generally dislike discounts and the iPad 2 just came out recently. What is Best Buy going to offer then? That we’ll obviously know once this event at Best Buy kicks off.
