What Is Cyber Monday – Everything You Need To Know [INFOGRAPHIC]

During Thanksgiving, stores such as Best Buy and Target had amazing deals lined up for the next day, Black Friday. The deals were so impressive that people lined up at all hours of the night, bringing tents and gadgets to keep them safe and busy for the wait.

    Cyber monday header

The day is a very profitable event. While I’m sure many retailers lose some cash selling some items at a loss, they make up for it when customers purchase more items, accessories or upgrades.

The day is such a success that approximately six years ago, online retailers wanted a slice of the action. In order to keep up with the sales rush, online retailers such as Amazon, had to plan something. What is their version of Black Friday? Well, Cyber Monday of course.

Today marks the sixth year discounts are offered across the World Wide Web. In the United States alone, Cyber Monday sales topped $1 billion in 2010. To put things in perspective, consumer electronic, jewelry and even food and beverage retailers saw over 80% increases in sales for that day. With sales like that, the online event will continue for many years to come.

Nowsourcing has released a few statistics of Cyber Monday’s history and it’s worth checking out. The trend is definitely increasing. In 2010, 72% of online retailers participated in the event while 88% participated last year. The total e-commerce sales for last year were $165.4 Billion. That works out to almost half a billion dollars a day!

    cyber-monday-history

So why is Cyber Monday such a profitable day? According to a press release from shop.org, who coined the term, there are three things:

      • Customers may be completing their shopping list for items not purchased during the Thanksgiving weekend.
      • Consumers may have stronger and faster access to the web at work
      • Once the kids are in bed, it may give more opportunity to shop online

I’ve done the Black Friday dance. It was when I was still a teenager and the only time I attended the madness. I woke up early and headed to a local electronic store giant, not for the sales or new gadgets, but because I worked there. Let me tell you. Scarred. For. Life.

I’m a happy Cyber Monday shopper now that it’s a big deal online. Over the years my Christmas shopping is done on the web more and more.

    What Natural Disasters Can Do

As unfortunate as it is, a nation that shows the highest level of solidarity when a natural disaster strikes, stays unaffected by the self-led bloodshed caused by civilians on daily basis.

Flipping through the archive, I came across another humanitarian account.

    The Floods of 2010
Of the countries falling in the monsoon belt affected drastically by floods in 2010, Pakistan was the worst hit of all undoubtedly. Flying to help were NGOs, civilians, and various humanitarian groups that went active online to mobilize aid from all corners. Needless to mention, there were also those many freeloading off the genuine efforts of others opportunistically using the ‘hype’ to their advantage.

As per a CNN iReport that ran on CNN Health on August 2, 2010, UM Health Trust was one such body that had been preoccupied with providing healthcare relief from day 1, invalidating the efforts of all those who take months getting fully functional. As highlighted in the report, the health facility started operating off the premises of a grammar school in Nowshera, having treated more than 400 people since it came together within the first few days of set-up.

UM HealthTrust came to the rescue of flood survivors before U.N., the Red Cross, and even the local government arrived.

    From Relief to Rehabilitation
Following rescue and relief, rehabilitation was the next step in the restoration of normality to the population affected by the disaster. Treating 150 patients daily via medical camps, UM Heath Trust slowly moved to the stage of rehabilitation bringing these out of the disaster that had inflicted them.

Via mobile water filtration units, UM Health provided 100,000 liters of clean filtered water to the affected people daily. It managed to do so by collecting unclean water from nearby sources cleansed through filtration units mounted on truck-tops, supplying clean water to over 8,000 families in Nowshera Kalan, Utmanzai and Tangi.

There was however one concern that kept UM Health Trust up at night, so to speak. It was, none other, than the long winter looming ahead for which, UM Health Trust reached out to the various donors for bedding and warm clothing.

UM Health Trust had managed to treat 7,000 medical cases within 7 weeks, and provided food ration to over 3,000 families. Combating water infectious diseases, UM Health Trust also fixated water filtration plants in communities being served by water filtration units previously. Making it all possible for the UM Health Trust, was the never-ending support of CDRS, DRIP, P@SHA, Medical Aid UK, and Pakistani Citizens.

With acts of camaraderie all around us, a commonly-held notion that good doing isn’t worth anyone’s time is rendered invalid.

Or is it? As is the case every year, the streets of Karachi did witness bloodshed once again as a few carried ritualistic processions associated with the turning of New Year as per the Islamic Calendar, marking the beginning of Muharram.

From a broader perspective, such acts of compassion can be appropriately termed as ‘periodic fits’ that the nation goes through whenever a natural disaster hits. Obviously, a normal state of being is the alternate.

Industry is all Abuzz with 3G

Industry is all Abuzz with 3G

By Aamir Attaa · Monday, Nov 28, 2011 8 Comments

Major milestone in reaching 3G landmark was achieved last week when Mr. Yousaf Raza Gillani, Prime Minister of Pakistan, nodded for a green signal on 3G policy. Though there are plenty of procedures left before we actually see a live 3G network in the country, but finally it now appears that 3G will indeed surface in Pakistan in less than a year, or say 18 months at most.

Cellular companies, which in the past seemed reluctant to embrace third generation technology, have at once come into hard play to look bolder and more desperate than others to get 3G license. Which is of course natural for them to pretend to be stronger, in a situation when post 3G era will give 3 operators a fresh start regardless of their current subscriber count, while remaining 2 will have to fight for their existence in the long run.

During my talks with operators, all of them were super confident about putting every possible effort to snatch a license to start 3G operations at earliest, however, deep in their thoughts one could sense the reservations. They knew that at most three of them will be able to experience the luxury of 3G, while the other two will have face uncontrollable sorrow plus a route to exit door down the line.

I can tell you that cellular companies didn’t like this 3G policy approval, regardless of what they say before press. Just imagine a market with 108 million customers with established networks, no further capex, rollouts â€" it was almost fun for cellular companies to sit still and earn the lavish livings out of it.

But this has to change now. For those who want to earn 3G will have to invest at least US 700 million dollars up to US 1.2 billion dollars (license fee plus infrastructure cost), while others will have to become InstaPhone and Paktel of new era. So one thing is clear, they will have to abandon the luxury of sitting still. The time to play their best cards to keep their businesses on the roll has come.

One can argue that celcos can make more money with 3G enabled networks, which seems attainable, but industry estimates suggest that at most 10 million customers out of 110 million will opt for 3G services. I am told that mobile operators are unable to see immediate viability in the plan, but as said above, do or die situation has come.

Market experts opine that merger possibilities will be on the rise in coming weeks and months. They say that they can sensed the demand and probably this is the best time to consolidate to become a team to invest and harvest equally and evenly. Having said this, they rule out any immediate outcome as stock values are on the decline to hit ever low level.

Other experts wanted not to comment on the situation. They probably want to wait for Etisalat to react on the decision, which has an agreement with Government of Pakistan to not to auction new licenses till March 2013.

A segment of market believes that government of Pakistan will with-hold the license fee after auction, and will not allow operators to start operations before this agreed date of March 2013 with Etisalat. Though I haven’t seen policy myself, so I can’t determine how government will conduct the auction and remaining process, but if agreement will Etisalat is indeed in place then things can go shaky.

Etisalat will probably go to court, given GoP is unable to convince them and they aren’t happy with the auction, which will buy government some more time, until March 2013 will come and everything will settle down.

Clearly government wants to make money out of this, this 3G policy approval has further confirmed that they want it quick â€" because the future of current government is getting uncertain with every passing day. So no matter what happens, one thing is sure: 3G bidding is going to happen soon, but when can you experience a 3G network still remains a question mark.

Let’s wait for the time to see how this whole thing unrolls.

Great Concept Of How Apple Would Hit The Photography Market [IMAGES]

We only very recently learned that Steve Jobs, Apple’s co-founder and CEO for the majority of its existence, sought to revolutionize the consumer electronics market in three key areas.

    iCam

TV was the first, with Siri integration hotly-rumored to be an associated act with any future iTV developments.

Secondly, he wanted to change the way students and knowledge-seekers searched and read textbooks, with a possibly Newsstand or iBooks-like app.

The other key area â€" something the fruit company has already tapped into somewhat, was the photography industry. Capitalizing on the success of the iPhone’s snapper, he sought to make Apple a truly-recognized option for amateur and professional photographers alike.

Inevitably, ADR Studios, a design and communications company, has thrown up a concept â€" based on the purported iPhone 5 specs â€" of what the Cupertino outfit could have in store if the latter of Jobs’ three wishes were ever to reach fruition.

Dubbed the iCam, it takes into consideration those iPhone 5 features we thought (and still hope) will eventually materialize, and plays on the idea of Apple releasing a separate peripheral to truly bring the next smartphone installment on par with the Nikon and Canon devices heading the market.

Here are some samples and tech specifications of the iCam:

    • Aluminum Unibody
    • Interchangeable Apple-Lens Lenses, with iMount mounting system

    • Front touch screen for self-portraits and for micro-app
    • LED Flash
    • Front pico-projector
    • SD UHS-i slot

    • Siri Compatible;
    • Motion Sensor;
    • ISO range from 100 to 3200 (extendable up to 6400 equivalent)

    • Full HD at 60fps
    • 10.1-megapixel sensor
    • Bluetooth

The images look amazing, although would it not be in Apple’s nature to try and emulate a ‘proper’ camera on a smaller scale? While the smooth and sleek design trait of Apple is evident, would the company really go that bulky in order to corner another market?

Well, perhaps. After all, the market leading cameras are bulky because they have to be in order to incorporate the extensive features.

    iCam2

    iCam3

One would have thought, though, that Jobs’ vision would have been a lot thinner and less weighty than ADR’s conceptual arrangement.

If Apple were indeed to go down the peripheral route and make a detachable camera add-on (which, knowing Apple, would be at the higher-end of the price scale), would you make the purchase over a Nikon?

Unpatched Apache reverse proxy flaw allows access to internal network

IASI, ROMANIA (11/25/2011) - A yet-to-be-patched flaw discovered in the Apache HTTP server allows attackers to access protected resources on the internal network if some rewrite rules are not defined properly.

The vulnerability affects Apache installations that operate in reverse proxy mode, a type of configuration used for load balancing, caching and other operations that involve the distribution of resources over multiple servers.

In order to set up Apache HTTPD to run as a reverse proxy, server administrators use specialized modules like mod_proxy and mod_rewrite.

Security researchers from Qualys warn that if certain rules are not configured correctly, attackers can trick servers into performing unauthorized requests to access internal resources.

The problem isn’t new and a vulnerability that allowed similar attacks was addressed back in October. However, while reviewing the patch for it, Qualys researcher Prutha Parikh realized that it can be bypassed due to a bug in the procedure for URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) scheme stripping. The scheme is the URI part that comes before the colon “:” character, such as http, ftp or file.

One relatively common rewrite and proxying rule is “^(.*) http://internal_host$1“, which redirects the request to the machine internal_host. However, if this is used and the server receives, for example, a request for “host::port” (with two colons), the “host:” part is stripped and the rest is appended to http://internal_host in order to forward it internally.

The problem is that in this case, the remaining part is “:port”, therefore transforming the forwarded request into http://internal_host:port, an unintended behavior that can result in the exposure of a protected resource.

In order to mitigate the problem server administrators should add a forward slash before $1 in the rewrite rule, the correct form being “^(.*) http://internal_host/$1“, Parikh said.

The Apache developers are aware of the problem and are currently discussing the best method of fixing it. One possibility would be to strengthen the previous patch in the server code in order to reject such requests, however, there’s no certainty that other bypass methods won’t be discovered.

“We could try improve that fix, but I think it would be simpler to change the translate_name hooks in mod_proxy and mod_rewrite to enforce the requirement in the ‘right’ place,” said Red Hat senior software engineer Joe Orton on the Apache dev mailing list. Orton proposed a patchthat is currently being reviewed by the other developers.

    Apple Best Buy

That’s right folks, we’re well and truly in the midst of Thanksgiving, and that can only mean one thing â€" Black Friday is upon us!

Those not familiar with Black Friday must have been living in the same bunker <insert tyrant’s name here> for the last few years, because Black Friday has become a big, big thing in the United States.

Microsoft building Kinect device for Windows PCs

SEATTLE (11/22/2011) - Microsoft will build a Kinect device specifically for use with PCs, as the company prepares to launch a program to support commercial products developed for Kinect and Windows.

Kinect is the motion and voice technology that Microsoft first introduced as an add-on to the Xbox. Gamers with Kinect play games by moving their bodies, rather than pushing buttons on a controller.

In a recent video, Microsoft showed some possible applications for Kinect with Windows, including people playing musical instruments by moving their hands in the air; a surgeon flipping through X-ray images without touching the screen; a teacher controlling a display of the night sky by moving his arms; and a technician remotely controlling a robot that defuses a bomb.

Earlier this year, Microsoft released a software development kit to let developers build applications on Windows that make use of the Kinect sensor. The Kinect device Microsoft will build for PCs has a few adjustments that should make it better suited for use with computers.

“Of particular interest to developers will be the new firmware which enables the depth camera to see objects as close as 50 centimeters in front of the device without losing accuracy or precision, with graceful degradation down to 40 centimeters,” Craig Eisler, general manager of Kinect for Windows, wrote in a blog post.

This “near mode” will be more suitable for someone sitting at a computer, as opposed to standing in front of a TV. It’s been one of the most requested features from developers already working on products, Eisler said. The new hardware will also have a shorter USB cable for connecting to computers.

When Microsoft first released the SDK for Kinect for Windows, it limited developers to non-commercial use only, saying it would release a commercial package in the future. It recently promised to launch that program early next year.

Some developers may be worried about how much to invest in their products without knowing more about the commercial program. Eisler wrote that users have said they want assurance of support and continued innovation from Microsoft. He hinted that the commercial program will give licensed customers access to ongoing updates in speech and human tracking technology as well as full support for Kinect hardware for Windows.

Microsoft recently announced an incubator program for getting startups with Kinect ideas off the ground. A Microsoft spokesperson said that Kinect for Windows will be commercially available prior to the incubation phase of Kinect Accelerator. Microsoft is accepting applications through Jan. 25 and the program will start in March.

Apple and Microsoft to Add NFC Support (E-Wallet Technology) to Phones in 2012

I go to Starbucks pretty often, I’m a big fan of their iPhone app that allows me to pay for my coffee by having the barista scan a code on my screen. The process is quick and easy and I have fun earning stars and checking the balance of all my gift cards. By next year, a scan-less method will be more popular and available with more merchants and on more phones.

    NFC iPhone

Early this year, Google released a video introducing their new Google Wallet service. The NFC technology is integrated into a few Android phones rolled out this year and allows you to pay at the register with your device. Instead of scanning a code, payments will instead be made to merchants by simply tapping your phone on a recognized reader.

According to DigiTimes, Microsoft and Apple have agreed that this is indeed the future and have planned on adding NFC support to their next Windows and iPhone platforms in 2012.  Currently, less than 10% of phones are NFC-enabled. Once the Redmond and Cupertino companies join the picture, that percentage will increase to over 50% in the next few years.

Although many manufacturers have built support for NFC, the standardization for it has had a rocky start. Taiwan makers name the cause:

"Without technological problems, the unsmooth development of NFC is mainly attributable to problems in standard specification, ecosystem and commercial operation, the sources indicated."

The problem may be solved by creating a SIM-based NFC protocol. This idea is backed up by 45 carriers worldwide, including AT&T and Verizon, the two largest wireless providers in the United States.

Apple has been rumored to support NFC for quite some time. Due to their recent patent filings, job listings and comments from some of company’s executives, the rumors have lately turned into a pretty likely prediction.

It will be nice to go wallet free and use phones for payment transactions, and this is a start. I’ve forgotten keys, and even my wallet when I’ve left home many times, I’ve never forgotten my cell phone. There are still a few hurdles to overcome; people still need to carry important documents with them at all times. Who knows? Maybe one day we can have a digital driver’s license on our phones too.

Italian mathematician prepares to challenge Google

ROME (11/18/2011) - The Italian mathematician who contributed to the development of Google’s search algorithm is preparing to launch his own challenge to the dominant search engine before the end of the year.

Massimo Marchiori, an associate professor at Padua University, recently began talking up the new search engine with videos posted on a promotional website at volunia.com.

In a video that shows him sitting on a park bench and writing on a whiteboard, he explains: “It’s not just Google plus 10 percent. It’s a different perspective. It’s a new radical view of what a search engine of the future could be.”,”

The website allows visitors to sign up for a chance to become “power users,” who will test the beta version of the search engine, which is to be launched in 12 languages.

In an interview published in the online edition of the Corriere della Sera Thursday, Marchiori declined to go into detail about what would set Volunia apart from its established competitors.

“For the moment I can’t say any more, I’m really sorry … The fact is that an enterprise like Google, to give an example, would have no difficulty in setting 100 engineers to work day and night on our idea and in coming out before us,” Marchiori said.

“If I didn’t think it was something big, capable of competing with the giants of online search, I would never have got involved,” he said.

Marchiori said the basic idea was simple and radically different from the current approach of the major search engines. “If Google uses a club, we will work with a fencer’s foil. The difference of our search engine is what will enable us to emerge. And because Volunia will be really useful to people.”

Marchiori is a member of the board of Tim Berners Lee’s World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and has worked on the Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P) and the Web Ontology Language (OWL). His Hyper Search algorithm was presented at a conference in California in 1996, which was attended by a 23-year-old Larry Page. The algorithm later evolved into Google’s Page Rank system.

The new project’s headquarters are located in Padua, in northeast Italy. Many of the software developers are Marchiori’s former students at the university, and funding is being supplied by Mariano Pireddu, a Sardinian entrepreneur with 20 years of experience in the IT and telecommunications sectors.

“The partners are myself and Massimo, plus all the researchers who have collaborated on the project,” Pireddu said in a telephone interview. “None of us is dreaming of creating a better search engine than Google. We think we can create an engine that is different from Google.”

Pireddu is the owner of Malloru, a business consultancy located in the western Sardinian town of Oristano, and was formerly the president of Slovenian telecom company Voljatel and an investor in Mindware Studios, a software company in Prague.

Volunia’s servers will be based in Sardinia and provided by Tiscali, but Tiscali founder Renato Soru is not an investor, Pireddu said.

“We have sufficient funds to finance the early stages of the venture. It’s premature to talk about the possible entry of new investors,” he said.

“The market will tell us in a democratic way whether our idea was good. If users like it, it means we have done a good job. If not, we’ll correct the product,” Pireddu said.

In his interview with Corriere della Sera, Marchiori said Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, had always acknowledged his contribution to the Google formula and he had no regrets that he had not participated in their astonishing commercial adventure.

“The idea of a vendetta never even occurred to me,” he said. “The truth is that it’s such a beautiful idea it would be a shame not to be able to realize it. And now is the right moment to do it.”

This App For Windows Reminds You When You Need To Take A Break – Download Now!

Sitting long hours hovering over a computer monitor has its drawbacks. Do your eyes hurt? How about your back or wrists? Studies have shown that breaks are an essential part of a workday. Without them, repetitive-stress injuries can occur.

    clock

Alas, it’s easy to forget to take them when caught up with a variety of work assignments or scouring the web all day. Even if you only work part-time or at home, breaks are crucial to your overall health.

We came across an app for Windows and its called Scirocco Take A Break; it will remind you (discreetly if you wish) when you are due for a breather. The utility will rest in the system tray, away from any open windows and when the time comes, will start flashing. If you need to be more discreet at work, you can change the alert to any of its included sounds or even choose one of your own .wav files. Not discreet enough? You can change the default alert to a simple pop-up.

“Version 2.7 adds the ability to activate the screen saver when on break, the choice of a variety of tray icons for more discretion at work and the main modify timer button on the main screen becomes a one-time change modification.”

The reviews are mostly favorable with most admiring the simplicity of the program. The only drawbacks mentioned by users are a lack of some features. Don’t expect anything fancy or glamorous; this is a free timer app that promises to do one thing: remind you when you should take a break. It delivers on that promise.

Remember to set your timer when you get to work. You’ll have to choose how long it’ll be before your next break, and program how long those breaks are. Once you get back to work, the little utility will start automatically letting you know when it’s time for break number 2.

The utility is only available for Windows at the moment. Mac users may want to check out Time Out. It’s also a free utility with the same basic idea but with a little touch of eye-candy.

So give those eyes a rest and pediculate for a moment or two. Your body will thank you.

Oracle Lays Framework For Transforming Datacenter

Reaching out to the CIOs of various industry verticals once again, Oracle raised another forum organized by Team CIO Pakistan on the 15th of November, in an attempt to gain a better perspective on a prevailing market attitude towards optimization of datacenter.  Within context, optimization refers to a transformation of datacenter by opting for a storage space that offers horizontal and vertical scalability at an exponential speed and fractional cost.

Engaging the participants in a series of open-floor discussions followed by presentations on Rapid and Secure Acceleration of Enterprise Applications with Next Generation SPARC Enterprise Servers and Systems, Oracle’s Storage Vision, Transformative Oracle Storage Solutions for Datacenter Consolidation, Virtualization and Cloud, and Oracle Database Appliance,  was a senior-level  team from Oracle ASEAN Region.  These included  Nattapon Sub-Anake, Product Systems Manager, ASEAN, Oracle Corporation, Daniel Ong, Senior Sales Manager, ASEAN, Systems LoB, Oracle Corporation, and Felix Ong, Head of Hardware Sales, SAGE West, Oracle Corporation.

Oracle Servers and Systems â€" An Opening Note

Opening the session, Nattapon Sub-Anake welcomed the audience to a Keynote Session on SPARC Enterprise Servers and Systems, Oracle’s latest innovation.  As Nattapon detailed, Oracle Servers and Systems can be classified as Purpose Built and General Purpose.  Where Purpose Built Servers and Systems such as Exadata,  Exalogic, Big Data, Database Appliance and Exalytics have an architecture designed for specific functionalities and accommodation, General Purpose Servers are built to house all of these.  Oracle’s SPARC T4 SuperCluster displayed at the Oracle Open World is a General Purpose Server that has already achieved 10 world records over counterparts by HP and IBM across every tier.

As Nattapon referenced, Oracle Engineered Systems introduced an efficiency that sped execution up to 10 times on an average for its customers. A move to Oracle Middleware Solution made processing 9 times faster for Banco de Chile as compared to IBM Webshpere and MQSeries. For P&G, Point-Of-Sales Analytics experienced an increase in speed by 18 times and an increase of data compression by 15 times following a migration to Oracle Business Intelligence Solution. In the pipeline for early 2012 is an Integrated Full Stack Management System. Also presented to the audience for state-of-the-art features were other Oracle Enterprise Level Servers and Systems including the x86, Solaris 11, Oracle Linux, Oracle VM 3.0, and Oracle Kernel.

    Hardware That Transforms Storage

Breezing through the announcements Oracle has made this year, the Keynote Presentation came to a wrap as the following presentations focused specifically on Oracle’s Vision for Storage through transformative hardware. Leading the next set of presentations, Daniel Ong Han Ping took stage. Offering a complete red stack that included software, middleware and hardware, Oracle had previously acquired Sun. Following the same, Pillar is a recent acquisition of Oracle in-line with its vision to provide a seamless integration, the highest performance, with maximum efficiency and security.

Fitting into the quotient, Daniel associated the 3 broad “value” differentiators with Axiom 600, a product family of Pillar, that consistently lower all IT costs and speed up the ROI, through advanced Quality of Service, Simple Data Management, and a scalability advantage. Facilitating Oracle’s Vision for Storage, Pillar Axiom 600 enables IT Administrators to utilize 80% of storage capacity without causing performance degradation which is twice the industry average.  Simply put, this is the sort of storage capacity all Oracle Servers and Systems extend to the existing and potential customers. In a win-win situation, Oracle’s Hybrid Compression drives efficiency by building a vast storage space that can be easily expanded to at a fractional cost. An advantage Oracle Servers and Systems hold over all competitors in the industry is innovation that suits recession.

In a closing keynote, Felix briefed the audience on Oracle Database Appliance, a simple and complete, plug-and-go hardware and software, ideal for SMBs and Departmental Systems. As business in the local industry follows a wait-and-see approach, Felix stressed on highest levels of serviceability ensured by Oracle at all times that include both premier support as well as telephonic support depending on the SLA reached.  As the session came to a close, Team Oracle from the ASEAN Region welcomed a final round of questions to make the knowledge-share interactive and fruitful.

Uninstall or Disable New Facebook Timeline from Profile and Revert to Old Layout

In our recent post on how to install the new Facebook Timeline on profile we seem to have received an amazing response from everyone.

Although, many people have been asking me how to uninstall or disable the new Facebook Timeline from profile since they find it hard to adapt to something too new so soon. Here are the steps:

  • Open the link https://developers.facebook.com/apps
  • In the Recently Viewed list in the left sidebar, select the app you created to enable Facebook Timeline
  • Click on Edit App on the top right.
  • In the page that open, click and confirm Delete App in the Related Links list in left sidebar.
  • Open your profile and it will be back to normal :)

I must mention however that Facebook Timeline will be enable by default for every user from September 30 onwards so good luck whining about the new Facebook changes. I think, it’s awesome!

PS: Now all of a sudden all the blogs will start covering news on how to uninstall and disable the new Facebook Timeline, wait and watch!

Codify for iPad is the first Multi-Touch Capable Visual Programming IDE for iOS

One of the first comebacks that people who aren’t willing to let go of the desktop/notebook paradigm against iPad is that it’s just a consumption device and not one for creation. This is said despite the fact that iPad has awesome creativity apps like iMovie and Garageband as well as the complete iWorks suite of apps. It was only a matter of time that a full featured visual programming IDE has not arrived to the iPad in the form of Codify.

    Codify

Codify lets users ( developers to be precise ) create games and simulations right on the iPad. To facilitate programming on the iPad, Codify uses its features such as accelerometer and multi-touch. It also enables using cool controls such as color pickers and image viewers right within the code you write making it fun to work with it. A full featured debugger is also included as well as full featured in-line reference documentation to help you out.

Codify is built on Lua which is a light weight scripting language. Apps such as Adobe’s Photoshop Lightroom and World of Warcraft make good use of Lua so this IDE is in no way for kids like Small Basic for Windows or Kodu for Xbox 360 and PC.

Codify has been built by Two Lives Left, an Australian game development company. If you’re interested, you can buy Codify from the App Store from here for only $7.99.

(Note: you can’t publish apps directly from the iPad yet but we have heard that the developers are in discussions with Apple to work out a way.)
